This class has really shown me that there are many resources and tools for all types of

disabilities. Educators, families, and other professionals can use these resources to help guide

the individual and the family as a unit. I am amazed at the dedication some teachers, families,

and professionals have, to better the education and quality of life for said individuals. And

impressed at how flexible they are in their creativity to accommodate their needs.

Having worked in special education, I still have so much to learn and want to do my

best. I really enjoy the “ah-ha” moments with my students, the connections I have made with

them, and that they have taught me a thing or two; about myself. I am very eager to use what I

have learned and to hopefully make a difference in someone’s life.

I think the one fear I have is working with individuals with emotional and behavioral

disorders. Today’s society, we set such high expectations on said individuals, we don’t offer

the proper guidance to teach the needed skills, and other topics that they would benefit from.

We need to learn more about how to support these individuals and not be so quick to judge or

assume that we know everything about them or the family.

Lastly, my concern, it is the collaboration amongst all the professionals and families of

said individuals. There needs to be accessible resources, training, and educational guidelines.

An open line of communication, a common goal, and flexibility on the strategies and the

interventions we use to better their quality of life. To be able to work together and support

one another is very important.
