Implants
What are Cochlear Implants?

Cochlear implants are a surgically implanted device used for

hearing. These implants consist of two parts, one part is a receiver-
stimulator device that is surgically implanted under the skin in your
ear. The other device, which is a speech processor, is worn behind
the ear like a hearing aid.
Studies suggest that getting the
cochlear implants earlier in a child’s life will be
more affective and less challenging for them as
they grow to learn and coexist with
their cochlear implants. The FDA allows children
at the age of 1 to get cochlear implants. This
age is in fact during a critical time in their lives
where they learn speech and language skills.
