Reflection

This essay was a way for us to learn how to do genre analysis. The genre analysis is for
us to break down the essay in a way so the reader can understand what the author was trying to
say without having to read or watch what our chosen resources were. This project helped us get a
better understanding on how to write an essay in a way that helps our readers understand in the
topic we chose and to learn more about the things we discovered about our topic. We had to
learn about how to see the perspectives of the other people in what they saw in our topic and put
in our points to get across on what we are trying to say. We needed to express our thoughts and
our resources thoughts so the reader can understand where we are coming from and if there is
anything in our topic that interested us. We were supposed to choose a topic we were passionate
about and analyze it so other people can see why we are interested and persuade them on why
that issue is important.
This project changes the way I wrote because it actually expands on my ideas. I was able
to learn on how to expand on my topic and figure out the different ways on how to get the reader
to relate and persuade them on why it is I found that specific topic really important. I think the
more we had to keep rewriting the more we got to see how much we improved and how much
we changed our styles of writing. I improved on not repeating as much to extend my paper and
learned more about how to keep using my resources to connect with the author. I had trouble
before with essays because I usually write 2 pages but now I am able to figure out ways on how
ensure that my readers can see the points I want to make and understand where I am coming
from. I learned how to make my essays more neat because honestly, I would have just done
straight down the page as one whole paragraph. I noticed that it makes my teachers not want to
read it since there is no separation of information and my ideas are all over the place in that large
paragraph.
I enjoyed finding my resources in this assignment. This is actually the first time that I
watched a full Ted Talk because when I was in high school, I wasn’t interested in the topics that
were handed to me. If I am not really interested, I could get really distracted then I forget what I
watched. I am pretty glad that the teacher allowed us to choose our topic because it helped e
express my thoughts more. I enjoyed the video I chose because she was able to relate to me in
some ways and I was able to understand her without feeling lost. She was able to relate to the
younger generation and made pretty good points on what everyone could improve on. I learned
more about how to slow down and take my time on essays, so I won’t have to struggle trying to
figure out a certain topic all at once.
I had a lot of challenges in this essay. I had to restart previous assignments because I just
couldn’t get the whole genre analysis thing. I later got to figure out how to explore this type of
essay and make it to where people can understand me and the other person’s words I was trying
to reference. I had a hard time remembering to add enough resources and to explain more in
depth because sometimes I have a hard time expressing my thoughts. I had a hard time with
figuring out what I wanted to do and what I wanted to use as my genres. I couldn’t figure out
which was the best resource to cover the topic over social media because it had to many goof
points. I had so many things to say but I was only able to choose one point to cover. I didn’t
know where to start and how to end but now I know where I stood with my essay and I am
actually proud because I did better on this essay than I have on my last ones.
