Topic or Unit of Study: Events Leading up to The American Revolution
Grade: 11
General Goals:
Students will understand the social, and political events that lead up to the American
Revolution. Students will also learn about major figures and organizations that influenced
American opinions.
Specific Goals:
o Students will understand the events that lead up to the American Revolution.
o Students will understand the reasons and ideas that contributed to the American
Revolution.
o Students will know the key figures such as Thomas Pane, during the American
Revolution.
Required Materials:
o Interactive smartboard
o Internet connection
o Google Slides
Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):
Greeting/Introduction into lesson
Ask students what they know about the topic
Step-By-Step Procedures:
o Class lecture about the topic
o Watch Crash Course about American Revolution
o Journal Assignment given to students
o Students will present a portion of their Journal Assignment
Plan for Independent Practice:
Students will complete a journal assignment in which they will take the perspective of a
Loyalist or Rebel and make journal entries based on events that lead up to the American
Revolution.
Closure:
Ask students which event was the most interesting and had the most impact on why the colonists
wanted to become independent.
Assessment Based On Objectives:
Students will be asked to present one of their journal entries to ensure that the student understand
the impact of the various events.
Possible Connections To Other Subjects:
This will be helpful when students begin to learn about the United States government and learn
why the government was formed the way it currently is.
Special Needs Accommodation:
Students who have dyslexia, ADHD, or ADD will most likely be present in my classroom. I will
make sure students have plenty of time to take notes, and will post presentations at the beginning
of the school day in case students miss any notes during the lecture. I will make sure to spend
more time assisting students with learning disabilities to ensure that they will be successful in my
class.
