Dear Kendra,

I am currently in my 4th year at Colorado State University. I have loved the college and Fort
Collins since I have gotten here. Guess I would say I am not complaining to take a 5th year! I am
a Colorado native, with my mom attending CSU for her college experience as well. I have
always loved Colorado and hope to stay here for much of my life.

One major aspect of my life is the importance of family. I have my father who currently lives in
Hawaii. I love to get out there and see him when I am able to. Hawaii has to be one of my
favorite places I have been! My oldest brother, Bryan, is currently working on law school down
in San Diego and a major inspiration for my life. They are both people I lean on everyday of my
life.

I am also guilty of being an avid sports fan. I can honestly say I watch most sports, except for
baseball. My favorite sports team might be the Avalanche, as hockey has to be the best sport to
watch! I am mostly a fan of Denver sports teams except for the Broncos. My dad instilled that in
me when I was younger! But I hope to take my love for sports and coach basketball when I am
older. I have coached a 7th/8th grade team here in Fort Collins for a season and could not have
had a better experience. Coaching is something I am extremely passionate about in my life!

I also have a huge love of reading and writing! I have found both of these since I have started to
attend college. This includes reading historical nonfiction, fiction, and narrative! I enjoy most
things that are based in history. This is where my love for writing takes me as well. I have
enjoyed writing essays for all of my classes and the research that comes with them. These are
both things I enjoy and will always ensure I have time afforded to these.

I am also a member of a fraternity up here at Colorado State. I was the president of my chapter
last year and learned alot about myself during the hectic of 2020. Phi Gamma Delta has been an
amazing experience for me during my college years and a formative one.

Through this I feel you can start to get the sense of who I am! I enjoy all kinds of sports and most
things that are associated with history. My family plays an integral part in my life and I am
thankful for them above all else. I hope this gives enough insight into my life! I am excited for a
great semester and continuing my journey to becoming a teacher.

Thank you
John Carlson
