Prepositions

A preposition is a word usually preceding a noun or pronoun that expresses a relation to


another word or element in the sentence. Examples of prepositional phrases are:
“the man on the platform”
“she arrived after dinner”
Many writers have difficulty with prepositions because there is no strict rule to follow.
Mastering prepositional phrases is a matter of encountering them repeatedly in speech and
text.
