MITU board Software Upgrade Guide 2 Upgrading Application Programs

1 Upgrading Application Programs

The MITU board version for SYNLOCK BITS V3 V300R002C30SPC305 is 218. To upgrade
the APPs of a MITU board earlier than 208, refer to the SYNLOCK BITS V3 V300R003C00
MITU Board Software Upgrade Guide 01. To upgrade the APP of a M ITU board of 208 and
later, refer to this document.

1.1 Preparations
1. Make sure that a computer that runs FTP software, such as WSFTP or CUTEFTP, is
ready. This document uses WSFTP95 4.50 as an example.
2. Make sure that the SYNLOCK BITS V3 device is connected to the computer properly.
3. Pay special attention to the compatibility between the BOOTROM and board APPs. If
the upgrade object is a running MITU board, it indicates that the board flash is running
in the normal state. In such a case, you only need to pay attention to the compatibility
between the BOOTROM and board APPs. If BOOTROM is 130 or earlier version,
upgrading may lead to hardware failure. In this case, please apply for spare part instead
of upgrading.
The mapping between the board APPs and the BOOTROM is as follows.

APP Version (MituApp) Lowest BOOTROM Version (BT11MITU.bin)

100–137 124
150–180 130
≥ 182 136

4. The support of each APP version for security redline requirements is as follows.
APP Version (MituApp) Security Redline Requirements

≤ 186 Not supported.

the port supports command input from the outside. Login
to the serial port requires password authentication.
BOOTROM Version Security Redline Requirements
(BT11MITU.bin)

< 162 Not supported. The debugging serial port is not disabled,
and the port supports command input from the outside.
Software can be loaded in BIOS status.
≥ 162 Supported. The debugging serial port does not support
command input from the outside. Software cannot be
loaded in BIOS status.

[Special Notes]
1. On a MITU board with BOOTROM of 162 and later, if the APP files are accidentally
deleted during board running, the board can restore the APP and run properly after a
board reset.
2. In the case of upgrading the APP version from 186 or earlier to 208, after the board
resets, the user name and password remain the same as those before the upgrade. [Note]
Remind the customer to timely modify the password information.
3. In the case of upgrading the APP version from 200~206 to 208 or later, after the board
resets, the user name and password are restored to the default values. This is because the
208 version has stricter requirements on passwords and a handling method different from
the previous one is used. Using the new handling method, the user name and password of
the previous version are cleared from the device and are restored to the default user name
and password. The 208 version has two default user names: admin and huaweinms,
with default passwords BITSpassword and BITShuaweinms respectively.
4. [Note] Remind the customer to timely modify the password information.
5. In the case of upgrading the APP from an earlier version to 208, the secure access
interface in unavailable if the required security certificate files (ca.crt, server.crt, and
server.key) are not loaded. If the secure access modes (FTPS/HTTPS/TELNETS) are not
available, non-secure access modes (FTP/HTTP/TELNET) are used.

1.2 Precautions
6. Back up data of the device before the upgrade.
Back up all files on the MITU board to the local computer through FTP. The backup
files can be used to recover data when the board fails to start upon an upgrade failure or
encounters exceptions during board replacement. For details, see Attachment 1: MITU
Data Backup Guide.

MITU board Software Upgrade Guide 2 Upgrading Application Programs

For versions earlier than 128, in addition to backing up the configuration files of the
MITU board, you also need to capture screenshots of important configuration
information, including the NTP client information, PTP configuration information,
system configuration information, and configuration information about the frequency
reference source and time reference source.
7. Check the device running status before the upgrade. Make sure that no
abnormality alarm exists on the device.
If any abnormality alarm is found, record the alarm and fix the issue. If the alarm exists
due to inherent defects of the source version, you can handle the alarm after the upgrade.
8. Check whether there is sufficient flash space before the upgrade.
Check whether the free flash space is sufficient to accommodate the new APP. If the
MITU board flash space is 16 MB, the free space is usually insufficient. You can check
the free space of the MITU flash according to the instruction shown in the following
figure. If the free space is insufficient, you are advised to replace the MITU board with a
new one. Basically, the flash space of a new MITU board is 32 MB.

Flash space is 13068288 bytes means 16MB and 26271744 bytes means 32MB .
9. The ALARM.CFG and SYS.CFG configuration files of APPs of different versions are
incompatible. Therefore, after uploading the APP and before resetting the board, delete
the ALARM.CFG and SYS.CFG files.
10. For APP of source version 128 and earlier:
Due to the change of configuration data format, after the upgrade APPs are loaded and
the board is reset, some configuration data of the input channel and the system will be
lost or incorrect. Therefore, you need to back up system parameters, reference source
configurations, and input and output board data before the upgrade for data recovery in
case of data inconsistency after the upgrade.
11. For APP of source version earlier than 182:
Make sure that the BOOTROM is of the 136 version or later. For details, see Attachment
6: SYNLOCK BITS V3 MITU BOOTROM Upgrade Guide.

1.3 Procedure
Step 2 Run the FTP software on the computer. The following WSFTP window (example) is
displayed.
If port 21 (non-secure port) of the device is disabled, log in to the device through FTPS to
perform the upgrade. For details, see Attachment 7: Core FTP LE Tool Operation Guide.

Ensure that the WS-FTP settings are correct and the computer can ping the SYNLOCK BITS V3 device.
If login through FTP fails, check whether firewall is enabled on the computer. If yes, deselect Passive
transfers as shown in the preceding figure, or temporarily disable the firewall.

Step 3 Enter the IP address of the MITU board in Host Name/Address. Enter admin and password
in User ID and Password respectively. (Note that User ID and Password are available for
input only after Anonymous is deselected.) Use default values for other fields.
Step 4 Then click OK. If the connection between the computer and the MITU is normal, the
following dialog box is displayed. In the dialog box, the right pane shows the internal files of
the MITU.

Step 5 After logging in to the board, back up all configuration data of the MITU board. Create a
folder on the computer and copy all files in the right pane to the folder.
Step 6 Delete temporary files such as the LOG.DAT, TIEx.DAT, MTIEx.DAT, TDEVx.DAT, and
FREQx.DAT to reserve space for the upgrade. After these files are deleted, reset the MITU
board immediately. After the board starts, connect the computer to the MITU board through
FTP again.

The x in TIEx, MTIEx, TDEVx, and FREQx represents 0, 1, or a.

Step 7 Decompress the software package for the upgrade. The decompressed file name is MituApp.
Set Local System in the FTP window as the folder for storing the MituApp file.

1. In Local System, select the MituApp file and click ->. A dialog box is displayed asking
you whether to overwrite the original MituApp file. Click Yes. The Transfer Status
dialog box is displayed, showing the loading progress. The loading speed depends on the
available network bandwidth. It takes about one minute in a local area network (LAN).

2. Delete the ALARM.CFG and SYS.CFG configuration files on the MITU board. In the
upgrade for an APP version earlier than 128, you also need to delete the SRC.CFG file.
In the upgrade from an earlier APP version to 208, if the EnSNMP.CFG file exists on
the device, you also need to delete this file. Before reset, take a screenshoot of system
configration and reference configration.

3. Reset the MITU board from the NMS, and check whether configuration data, especially
the system parameters, reference source configuration data, and input and output channel
data, is correct on the NMS after the MITU board starts. In the upgrade from an APP
version earlier than 128 to 128 or later, perform configuration and loading again on the
NMS if the data is incorrect, and check whether any abnormality alarm is reported. If
any abnormality alarm is found, find the root cause and fix the issue.

MITU board Software Upgrade Guide 2 Handling Abnormalities During the Upgrade

2 Handling Abnormalities During the

Upgrade

2.1 MITU Fails to Start After Reset Because Board APPs

Are Directly Upgraded Without Upgrading BOOTROM
If the compatibility between the MITU board APPs and the BOOTROM is neglected and the
APPs of 150 or a later version are directly loaded to the MITU board without the BOOTROM
upgraded to the 136 version, the MITU cannot start after a reset and the RUN indicator will
be steady on.
In this case, handle the problem by referring to operations described in section 4.2 of
Attachment 6: SYNLOCK BITS V3 MITU BOOTROM Upgrade Guide.

2.2 Handling Fan Tray Fault Alarms Reported upon a

Board APP Upgrade to the 208 Version
For details, see Attachment 4: SYNLOCK BITS V3 Fan Tray Alarm Shielding Operation
Guide.

2.3 MITU Fails to Start After Reset Because Data Errors

Occur During Board APP Upload
If this issue occurs, you need to check the BOOTROM version. The following operation
applies only to BOOTROM of versions earlier than 162.
The MITU board with BOOTROM of version 162 and later supports automatic APP
restoration and therefore seldom has the startup failure mentioned earlier. However, if
the board fails to start due to errors in the loaded APP, the APP cannot be restored,
because the debugging serial port on the MITU board with BOOTROM 162 is disabled.
In such a case, you can only apply for a spare MITU board for replacement.

Data errors may occur during APP loading due to network issues. As a result, the APP may
fail to run after the board is reset. In this case, handle the problem by referring to the
following instructions.

Preparations
Make sure that the following materials are available:
 A computer with a network interface card (NIC). The computer is connected to the
MITU board through a network cable.
 A debugging cable (RJ45-DB9)
 Tool software NetTerm and wftpd32.exe for extracting board software from the
compressed software package. You are advised to use the NetTerm 4.2.8 and WSFTP95
4.50. For details about how to use the NetTerm, see Attachment 5: NETTERM Operation
Guide.

Handling Procedure
4. Insert one end of the debugging cable to the CON port (RJ45 socket) on the front panel
of the MITU board and the other end to serial port 1 of the computer. Start and configure
the NetTerm software according to the Attachment 5: NETTERM Operation Guide.
5. Set the IP address of the computer and ensure that the IP address is in the same network
segment as that of the MITU board.
6. Copy the MituApp file for the upgrade to a directory, such as C:\TEMP\BT11MITU.
7. Run wftpd32.exe. Right-click the wftpd32.exe icon and choose SECURITY-
