The Music of the Counter Culture Movement

Credence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son Buffalo Springfield - For What Its Worth
Some folks are born, made to wave the flag There's something happening here
Ooh, they're red, white and blue What it is ain't exactly clear
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief" There's a man with a gun over there
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord Telling me I got to beware

It ain't me, it ain't me; I think its time we stop

I ain't no Senator's son Hey what’s that sound
It ain't me, it ain't me; Everybody look what's going down
I ain't no fortunate one, no
There's battle lines being drawn
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh Young people speaking their minds
But when the taxman comes to the door Getting so much resistance from behind
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
What a field-day for the heat
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes A thousand people in the street
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord Singing songs and carrying signs
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?" Mostly say, hooray for our side
Ooh, they only answer More! More! More! Yeah
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, The Man come and take you away

John Lennon – Imagine Bob Dylan -- Blowing In the Wind

Imagine there's no heaven How many roads must a man walk down
Its easy if you try Before you call him a man?
No hell below us How many seas must a white dove sail
Above us only sky
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Imagine all the people
How many times must the cannonballs fly
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries Before they're forever banned?
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
And no religion too
Imagine all the people The answer is blowing in the wind
Living life in peace...
How many years must a mountain exist
You may say I'm a dreamer Before it is washed to the sea?
But I'm not the only one How many years can some people exist
I hope someday you'll join us Before they're allowed to be free?
And the world will be as one… How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger How many times must a man look up
A brotherhood of man Before he can see the sky?
Imagine all the people How many ears must one man have
Sharing all the world...
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?

resisted retaliation
against them

FOLLOW-UP

1. Which was your favorite song? What did you like about it?

I like the Fortunate son song because although it involved historical events, it was catchy
and interesting.

2. Which was your least favorite song? What did you not like about it?

My least favorite was the For what its worth song because it was very slow.

3. Explain which song made you think the most about its message.

The Fortunate son made me think about its message because it depicted the fact that
everyone are not as fortunate as others and most of us aren’t raised by in a rich family or
neighborhood.

4. Explain which song you felt went “too far” (unrealistic, inappropriate or insensitive).
The fortunate son was one that i felt went too far because it is insensitive to those
who are born in the perspective of waving the red, white, and blue flag.
