Story about Max Verstappen

The last few seasons of Formula 1 have been marked by the dominance of Mercedes and Louis
Hamilton. On this occasion, we will talk about a guy that many Formula 1 fans see as someone
who could break Hamilton's dominance. It's about Max Verstappen.

Max Emilian Verstappen was born on September 30, 1997, in the Belgian city of Hasselt but
competes in races under the Dutch flag. His father is a Dutch former Formula 1 driver, Jos
Verstappen, and besides him, several other members of Max's family were involved in racing
sports. Max's father had a decisive influence on his career. He helped him grow into a great
driver for whom it is a matter of days before he reaches his first Formula 1 title. Max’s mother,
Sophie Kumpen was a go-kart driver while his uncle Anthony is a driver in the Nascar European
series but was suspended due to a positive doping test. Max's sister Victoria also does go-karting.

Max's father Jos managed to pass on his love of racing to his son. Max started go-karting at a
very young age. He was only four and a half years old when he started playing this sport. Max
was fantastic and at the age of only 8, he won the national karting championship of Belgium
where he achieved victories in each of the 21 races held. In 2013, he became both a European
and world champion in karting. After great results in karting, Max started driving in Formula 3,
which was just an introduction to his debut in Formula 1.

Max is the youngest driver to be given the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car. He made his
race debut in Australia in 2015. driving for the Scuderia Toro Rosso team and was only 17 years
old. In that season, he became the youngest points winner in the history of Formula 1. That
season, he managed to collect a total of 49 points. What’s interesting is the fact that Max drove
his first Formula 1 races without having a driver’s license at all. Many criticized him for sitting
in a Formula 1 car at such a young age, but Verstappen already showed that he would be a
fantastic driver and that he would have the opportunity to fight for the title of world champion in
Formula 1.

In 2016, Max joined the Red Bull racing team where he replaced Daniil Kvyat. He started the
season at Toro Rosso, but after just four races he moved to Red Bull. He was replaced by the
aforementioned Kvyat for Toro Rosso later in the season. Verstappen is in an emotional
relationship with Kvyat's ex-girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, who is the daughter of the legendary
Formula 1 driver, Nelson Piquet.

On his debut for the Red Bull racing team, Verstappen won the race in Spain, where he
celebrated in front of the famous Kimi Raikkonen. That is how he became the youngest winner
in one Formula 1 race because he was only 18 years and 228 days old. Max thus picked up all
possible accolades and the only thing he still lacks is the title of world champion. He finished the
last two seasons as the third in the general classification, and this year he will try to overthrow
Hamilton from the throne, which would make him the first Dutch driver to become the champion
in Formula 1.
