Environmental Art

By:Fallon Foley
When you started this project, did you know how you would address the social and ethical implications of waste? Or did you begin by
collecting paper and letting the concept evolve based on the materials you found? Explain.

I began by collecting, boxes, bags, string, caps, magazines

I found a painting in which I repurposed into a piece of art addressing waste.

How did working with only recycled or found paper affect your creative process? Did you
have any frustrations or profound moments of insight?
By working with only recycled materials it as difficult for me to keep finding the
same color to mimic what was behind the glass. It made become more creative in my
search. To my surprise I could have been able to create this piece probably without
going to a store at all.
How do you feel about your final piece? Do you feel you successful in addressing the
concepts addressed in the project?
I like my final piece. It felt like a game or if I was trying to complete a puzzle. The
amount of waste on it is only a small scale of what a normal day of garbage looks
like for an individual. I layered many pieces of garbage implicating excessive
amounts waste within our society.
What was the biggest success? Refer at least one specific detail in
the artwork.
I like the randomness of different shades of colors

I used a piece of rope on the outside of the rim which makes the artwork more of my
own.

I burned an old holiday card because those are wasteful at times-it blends into the
grass.
- If you made this again, what would you do differently?

I would have more garbage

I would use my own piece of art

I would still paste on glass. After I would remove it having a white sheet of paper
underneath I would be able to really see how similar the art looks side by side. Also
be able to see, how many spots you were not able to fill.
Do you feel this project has informed or will affect your future art practice. If
so, how? If not, why?
This project has made me realize how much supplies I actually do already own
within my own house. Often when starting a project, I will jump into buying
supplies this reminds me that I should reuse. It puts into perspective how much
waste we go through by the use of layering papers and plastics.
