National foreword

This Part of BS 6318 has been prepared under the direction of the Mechanical
Engineering Standards Committee, and is one of a series of standards concerned
with bucket elevators. It is identical with ISO 7190 “Continuous mechanical
handling equipment — Bucket elevators — Classification” published in 1981 by
the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Part 2 of this standard is identical with ISO 5050 “Continuousmechanical

handling equipment — Vertical bucket elevators with calibrated round steel link
chains — General characteristics” and Part 3 with ISO 5051 “Continuous
mechanical handling equipment — Deep elevator bucket with flat rear wall —
Main dimensions”.
Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has
been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without
deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those
used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the following.

The comma has been used throughout as a decimal marker. In British Standards
it is current practice to use a full point on the baseline as the decimal marker.

Wherever the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard,

they should be read as “British Standard“

A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.

Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity

from legal obligations.

1 Scope and field of application 3.1.2 Inclined straight bucket elevators

This International Standard establishes the Elevators which carry the material along a straight

classification, according to their principal path, having an angle between 55 to 70° to the

characteristics, of bucket elevators referenced horizontal axis.

in 2.14.16 and 2.14.17 of ISO 2148.

construction and to the path of the buckets

3.1.1 Vertical straight bucket elevators

Elevators which carry the material along a vertical

or inclined path, having an angle less than 20° to the

vertical axis.
