According to me the life of the people who works in mess, who run shops, who works as
security guard, rickshaw pullers is quite difficult. I had a conversation with a nightmess worker
here at IIT Delhi. His name is Charan, 36 years old. He is married and has 3 childrens. He is a
employee who works under someone and have to work in a time interval decided by the owner.
He has a salary of around 8-10k per month. He is not much satisfied with his job as he has to
work during night( 8pm - 4am) and has a very unsatisfactory salary but he has to manage with it
as he don’t have any other side job currently. He wants to do the better job than this if offered.
He gets 4 unpaid leaves a month but he still works on those days as he gets paid for it and as
he don’t want to waste 4 days of his month getting money from nowhere. He don’t get any
bonus for his work not even on any festival. He requires more salary than this to support his
family better and wants to provide his childrens a good future by educating them good. But even
if he his not getting good salary he is still happy with his job and his life as he gets enough time
to spend with his family.

The private jobs for these type of people are not as full of ease as others think. They have to
work because they don’t have enough money or self confidence to start their own small
business. The lack of self confidence is because of their illiteracy. They all wants a better job
which gives them high salary and demand less working hours and have job security but most of
them don’t get such jobs. But they have to manage with the available job to satisfy the basic
needs of their life. I remember someone saying in the class about the dream salary that for
earning a high amount of salary one have to work hard and the amount of time we are investing
in that work would have to be much more and we will not be able to take out time for our
entertainment purposes, travelling, etc. If one is running towards money or materialistic things
one would not be able to enjoy the fruits it gives, instead of this one should be doing a job that
makes us happy even if it did not come with the good salary.
