ii. Color Rendering Index (ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of a illuminated object)
Control of optics, The optics carrier contains PCB’s for the control of optical functions (zoom, optical depth)
illumination, and illumination (main illumination, Ottoflex illumination).
external devices
It is connected to the CAN bus and receives CAN commands from the M820/ M822/ M844
control unit. External electrical devices (slit illuminator, SDI/BIOM, DIC800...) are connected
and controlled via the optics carrier.
Power supply The optics carrier is powered via the stand power supply by 24VDC. It is delivered with the
CAN bus cable through the XY/focus/tilt unit.
The lamp controller board forwards the 24V via a fuse (3A) to the zoom controller.
DC/DC converters on the lamp controller board deliver12V and 5V for electronic supply.
Also the zoom controller board gets the same voltages, and has an own DC/DC converter
for 3.3V.
Zoom controller The zoom controller board contains a 32-bit micro controller.
board: 32-bit micro The controller manages the CAN communication and controls illumination and cooling,
controller motors and external devices.
Zoom range The zoom range connector board contains only one component, the sensor for the zoom
connector board drum. All other signals are just looped through.
It connects to the handgrips (left and right) and to the motors.
The board is taken unchanged from the M820/M844, therefore an additional jumper must
connect to P3 (formerly used for filter sensor).
Lamp controller The lamp controller board drives the LED for main illumination and the halogen bulb for
Ottoflex illumination / slit illuminator.
Alternatively, if M822 H is selected, it drives the halogen bulb for main illumination.
Main illumination A high power, single LED is used for the main illumination.
M822
It has a variable drive current up to 5A.
The LED driver on the lamp controller board receives a PWM signal from the zoom
controller and delivers a DC current accordingly (from 1%...100%).
Ottoflex 2 Halogen bulbs on a lamp changer are used for Ottoflex illumination.
illumination The lamp regulator circuit on the lamp controller board receives a PWM signal from the
zoom controller board and delivers a DC voltage accordingly, up to 12V.
A lamp-test circuit is implemented for detection of an eventual defective bulb (does not
work below 1% brightness).
Slit illuminator If a slit illuminator is used, the slit illuminator bulb (same type as the Ottoflex bulb) gets
supplied by the Ottoflex circuit.
Cooling control Each lamp or LED (main and Ottoflex illumination) is cooled by one fan.
The fan speed depends on the selected brightness.
The fans are monitored and in case of failure the appropriate brightness gets limited.
Temperature probe A sensor registers the temperature near the heat sink of the lamp housing.
If the temperature exceeds 65° Celsius, the fans run at full speed.
Board temperature Another temperature sensor, located on the lamp controller board (near the lamp drivers),
sensor can be monitored via the Service Menu.
This sensor has no impact to brightness or fan speed, it’s just for temperature information.
The range of the motor / zoom drum is just limited by mechanical stops. A sensor detects
the center position of the zoom drum. The motor driver is short-circuit proof.
Start-up When the system is switched on, the zoom motor moves to the middle position, indicated by
initialization the sensor. The zoom position counter is now initialized and it moves to the start position
(defined in User Settings).
Fast-Startup (off/on within 20 seconds): if this option is selected (in control unit M822/M844),
the initialization is not performed.
The micro controller stores the last counter position and just takes it over.
Service function: The “Motor Adjust” procedure (Control Unit) defines the valid range of the zoom:
motor adjust the motor drives through the entire range, from one mechanical stop to the other.
The encoder values are stored and the valid zoom range is defined.
Motor test In this procedure the zoom motor drives till it reaches the sensor.
Depth enhancer The diaphragm mechanism for depth enhancing is moved by a DC motor. The motor driver
circuit powers the motor for 1 second.
The mechanism locks at it’s end position. For reversing of the function the motor gets
powered with reversed polarity, again for 1 second, so the mechanism locks in the other
end position.
