PART I: IMPORTANT POINTS IN WORK IMMERSION

INTRODUCTION

Work Immersion is a key feature of the K to 12 Program that is a must – have for
graduation. A senior high school student of a twelfth grade must undertake work
immersion in a company wherein their work requirements are associated with the
selected strand of the students. In compliance with this, the students will be able to
become exposed to the work environment. The programs aims to give the students a
glance of what an actual workplace is, to enhance the necessary knowledge and skills
that are essential to their specializations, and to provide students relevant learning
experiences through getting them exposed to the actual workplace setting, improving
their expertise, being able to become prepared for their future post-secondary goals.

According to Department of Education, this hands-on encounter program ranges

from 80-320 hours, depending on the tracks they have taken. This will help the students
be able to apply the acquired knowledge they have learned from the school and improve
their skills at the same time. The Department of Labor and Employment said that his
work is a vital part of the K to 12 Program which can generate job-ready graduates
armed with industry-based abilities. DOLE sturdily upholds that work immersion adds to
the full apprehension of the aims of the K to 12 Program. Through the said program, the
students will be able to become ready for working comfortably, having them become
familiar with business-related conditions in line with their post-secondary goals. This will
provide them enough capabilities to be able to face the real-life scenario of the work
environment. This also helps them decide on what career they would take as they finish
their studies for it will test their skills and knowledge in practice.

Our country has encountered “on-the-job” training, commonly known as OJT.

Unluckily, it was not that effective due to lack of academic and skilled experiences based
on international criteria. That’s the reason why the administration launched the K to 12
Program. This program serves as a key in attaining such proficiency in worldwide fields.
As to make this work immersion fruitful, the learners must attain such characteristics,
values, and skills. Alternatively, work immersion can also be meaningful with the
existence of the business that will train the learners on their respective fields.

The government encourages the learners not only to become academically-

oriented, but also to become morally-inclined as well. K to 12 attempts to develop an
individual to be morally, academically, and globally proficient.
