CASE STUDY 1:

Q1. What, according to you, were the reasons for Rohit's disillusionment?
Answer the question using Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Hertzberg’s
Motivation Hygiene Theory.

A. Reasons for Rohit’s Disillusionment are:


i. Rohit’s social need and esteem needs mainly the reason for his
disillusionment.
ii. There is very little interaction between his boss and teammates.
iii. Rohit’s Boss imposes his own ideas on the team do not give exposure to
others to express their ideas.
iv. His Boss does not Recognizes the subordinate work.
v. Instead of giving appreciation he blames the team for delay in performance
and separate himself from the team.
Rohit’s need according to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs:

A. Physiological Needs:
a. To stay with family and friends
b. Hike in remuneration
c. Better career prospects and foreign ambitions

B. Security Need: Rohit needed a job near to Delhi

C. Social Needs:
a. Healthy interaction with team members and boss
b. Exposure to ideas
c. Comfortable work environment

D. Esteem Needs:
a. Recognition from Boss
b. Appreciation from team members

E. Self - Actualization Need: Rohit did not reach self - actualization

We can also understand it using Hertzberg's Motivation Hygiene Theory, in which


Rohit missed Motivating Factors or Satisfies in his work such as success,
appreciation, and work itself. Rohit achieved his desire to stay with friends and
family. Also he got the opportunity to excel in his work. But unfortunately, Rohit’s
boss didn’t recognize him properly and didn’t appreciated his ideas, as well as his
subordinates were also reluctant towards him. Since it became mechanical in nature
making him lose motivation.

Q2. What should Rohit do to resolve his situation?


A. To solve this situation, Rohit must do the following things:

a) Rohit should maintain his high motivation level as he had in the previous
job

b) He should continue to take interest and actively participate in the task


assign to him and the team

c) Present as much as new ideas to his boss and try to convince him to apply
them in the practice

d) He should convince his colleagues to participate in decision making and


creating new ideas even if they get rejected by their boss

e) Try to establish an effective boss-subordinate relationship for betterment of


work environment

Q3. What can a team leader do to ensure high levels of motivation among
his/her team members?

A. A Team Leader must ensure the followings measures to motivate among


team members such as:
a) He should maintain good work environment
b) Leader must try to establish effective boss-subordinate relationship
c) He should motivate subordinates by giving appreciation and rewards
d) Invite ideas from team mates must be welcomed
e) He must foster achievement motivation practice
