1.

Explain how looking into the political, societal, and cultural aspects help us
understand corruption.
- Since corruption is one of the biggest dilemmas of one’s country, where it is the use of
public means for private gains of the authorities in the government to maintain in their position
and their power. Corruption in societal aspects, where one takes bribes to blinds and twist the
words of the innocent people for the benefit of the people with power. Corruption threatens the
development of the economy because instead of using the money for the citizens of our country
like for housing, healthcare education, security, and welfare, people with power delays the
development to corrupt the money allocated for that project and usually the poor suffers the
most.
2.Do you agree that our justice and accountability system are weak? Why?
- Yes, because there are government officials like Bong Revilla who corrupted a lot of money in
Pork barrel where instead using it for the citizens they steal the money for their own purposes.
Despite of that he got out while the people who stole thousands pesos stay in prison for the rest
of their lives. Justice system works sometimes but there are cases where people with power steal
money for their private gains and still get a power in the government. I agree that our
accountability system is weak because we still need the help of other country to promote and
generate laws on our country, Philippines can’t stand on its own because we lack resources and
funds.
3. Why is citizen participation crucial in fighting corruption?
- Based on my perspective, the money that they are corrupting is for the public or the citizens
of one’s country and it is our right to see where our taxes go and the right to feel that we are
secure and acquiring the benefits that we deserve. The citizen should have the voice and fight the
corruption because we do not deserve to have a leader who is not capable of leading and have the
guts to steal from us just for their benefits. It is our money and it belongs to the citizen of the
Philippines not to their pockets.
