PLO #6 -

"Integrate and apply current management concepts and skills in areas of health care personnel,
organizations and agencies, emphasizing problem-solving techniques and group communication
skills."

Reflection:
I enjoyed putting together this final PLO #6 reflection for this topic because it is very near and
dear to my heart. This write up allowed me to speak on a program that positively affected me
and re-directed the course of my healthcare career in terms of what my role as a healthcare
professional could be. I chose this artifact because it most closely integrates and applies current
management concepts and skills in the areas of health care personnel, organizations and
agencies, is one of my favorite projects completed while on campus at CSUCI.
This project was a Photovoice using a slide show to showcase a low income/ unemployment
training program that I qualified for in my journey to being licensed to practice massage
therapy. The agencies and organizations of the established school of Southern California Health
Institute (SOCHI), Career Works and the Department of Employment Development (EDD) all
needed to work together in order for candidates like myself with little experience to become
trained for a healthcare career.
A large part of why I was successful at completing the program is the individual healthcare
personnel that successfully recruited candidates like myself by taking the time to understand
the individuals on a case by case basis. While there could have been bureaucratic delays, the
process for me and many other students of SOCHI went well. After completing their
Professional Massage Therapy program, I sat for the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam
(MBLEX) and as of writing of this text, I am still a practicing therapist.
The program itself was a great asset to the community it served in the San Fernando Valley
and surrounding areas with an emphasis on problem- solving techniques and group
communications. I have seen the current management concepts utilized such as the social
media, constant text and email reminders as well as the career services which includes job
placement. I included lots of pictures in the project and the information is a realistic “day in the
life of a SOCHI student” kind of format. In conclusion, this artifact establishes the integration
and application of current management concepts and skills in areas of health care personnel,
organizations and agencies, emphasizing problem-solving techniques and group communication
skills.
