9. Troubleshooting NT (Networking):

9.1 Basic Settings of Network:

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network

- if necessary reduce the Network Services (Default 5 Services)
- check the RPC Configuration Basic Settings (Default)
- if necessary reduce the Network Protocols (only TCP/IP)
- check the TCP/IP Properties
- IP Address (own host)
- Subnet Mask (calculate it out of Network Addresses, very important !!!)
- Default Gateway (Router)
- Adapter (right Ethernet-Card at Network)
- no DNS (no entries, only default Host Name)
- no WINS (no entries, only enable LMHOSTS lookup)
- no DHCP (no entries, only default 4,4)
- no Routing (not enabled)
- if necessary reduce Bindings to the (one) right Ethernet-Card at Network
(disable/enable adapters)

%winroot%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
- if necessary reduce of Alias Names (Default localhost, + if necessary Application entries)
e.g.:
127.0.0.1 localhost
218.1.31.87 nwi_server3 # Added by AccessIntegrator Installation
132.29.1.33 timehost

%winroot%\system32\drivers\etc\LMHOSTS
- make NT-PC’s public to other LAN-Segments
(all Primary and Backup Domain-Controller with #DOM:<Domain>)
e.g.:
218.1.31.69 NWI_CLIENT1 #PRE
218.1.31.68 NWI_CLIENT2 #PRE #DOM:NWI_DOMAIN2
218.1.31.70 NWI_REMOTE1 #PRE #DOM:NWI_DOMAIN2
218.1.31.67 NWI_SERVER1 #PRE
218.1.31.83 NWI_SERVER2 #PRE #DOM:NWI_DOMAIN2

Start -> Shut Down -> Restart Computer

Start -> Programs -> Command Prompt

- ipconfig /all

9.2 Check Connection between LAN-Segments:

Start -> Programs -> Command Prompt

- ping <IP address destination>

- tracert <IP address destination>
- net statistics workstation

The continuos and controlled Data Rate as a function of time gives answers about the quality of the LAN/WAN-
Connection.

9.3 Check of the Domain Controlling:

On Workstations:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network -> Identification
- Change Domain to Workstation

On Domain-Controller:
Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager
- Remove Workstations and Standalone-Server from Domain
(15 min update time but it is not necessary to wait for the notification)
- select Backup Domain-Controller and promote it to Primary

On Workstations:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network -> Identification
- Change Workstation to Domain ...
with Login as Administrator at Domain-Controller !!!

On Domain-Controller:
Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager
- select Backup Domain-Controller and promote it to Primary

It is not possible to work with a Standalone-Server in a Domain !!!

9.4 Check the Applications

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Services

- if necessary reduce the Services by stop them (only Default Services are running)
- if necessary change the Startup character of Services
- if necessary stop and start RPC locator and service

Shut down the Standalone-Server, if implemented in the Domain

- if necessary install new OS (WS or BDC)

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network

- Add Network Service
- Network Monitor Tools and Agent
Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Network Monitor
- Menu -> Capture -> Networks -> Select Capture Network
- Menu -> Capture -> Filter -> add or delete addresses
- Menu -> Capture -> Start

Start Application and check Connection

- Start -> Programs -> AccessIntegrator -> ACI Client
- Scanning for Server Selection
