SUBJECT: Trip report of the conference School Psychology

Introductory Summary
The purpose of this report is to present what was discussed in the conference of
School Psychology held via Google Meet video conference. Dra. Patricia L. Landers and
Dra. Maria Bravo presiding. This report includes the following sections: Importance of
school psychologist, What school psychologists do? How psychologists help in schools?
and Conclusion.

Importance of school psychologist

The discipline of school psychologists seeks to ensure the right of children to
develop in a safe and quality school environment. They attend the problems through
consultation, evaluation, intervention, prevention and education. They do not limit
themselves to work with students, but also work with parents, teachers, and school
personnel.

What school psychologists do?

School psychologists seek to create educational, respectful and supportive
environments. In ways that they improve home, school, and community connections. In
addition, they try to find the best solution to the situation in each child. They can make
referrals to other professionals, in search of improving student performance at school.

How psychologists help in schools?

They provide advice on social problems present in schools. They increase student
achievement by identifying barriers to learning and determining the best instructional
strategies. In the same way, psychologists promote the well-being of the students in a way
that reinforces communication, works on the management of courage, self-regulation, self-
determination and optimism. In addition, they evaluate the student body in case of
eligibility for special education services. Also, psychologists help with school policies in
order to reduce school violence, bullying and harassment.

Conclusion
This lecture helped me understand the work that school psychologists do. This
knowledge can help me in the future since as a future doctor I can receive referrals from
school psychologists or vice versa. In addition, I understand the great importance of school
psychologists in maintaining a positive environment and learning among teachers, students,
and school staff.
