During this semester while taking the course of Technical Writing (ENGL4021), I
realized that my ability of writing had improved. In this course we had the opportunity to
learn and write technical documents such as a formal email, technical minutes, a proper
outline, a cover letter, resume and technical oral presentations. It was a helpful class because
in the majority of those documents I was not an expert, and those documents are used in a
professional future.
Writing a cover letter and a resume was the most practical document since they are
some of the documents that graduate school are looking for when students are applying. After
understanding what a cover letter was, I now know the importance of always writing one. In
addition, this course taught me techniques to improve my writing like showing words that
are informal, the proper use of fonts and the ABC format that is required in technical
documents. One of the most influential and important aspects that helped me improve my
development of ideas and writing was the free writing exercises at the beginning of every
class. The free writing exercises gave us a short time to write which I found practical because
in that way, I developed my fluency in writing words and organizing my ideas. Additionally,
Technical Writing helped me in developing teamwork skills which are important in any
workplace’s environment. The home garden helped me understand better the importance of
agriculture and to become more aware of what I am eating and where does it come from.
In conclusion, this extensive writing course gave me the tools to be more fluent in my
writing. Also, I acquired the knowledge about some technical documents that I know will be
helpful in my professional career. Finally, the home garden strengthened my skills and
