Reflection of my performance as a writer

During this semester while taking the course of Technical Writing (ENGL4021), I

realized that my ability of writing had improved. In this course we had the opportunity to

learn and write technical documents such as a formal email, technical minutes, a proper

outline, a cover letter, resume and technical oral presentations. It was a helpful class because

in the majority of those documents I was not an expert, and those documents are used in a

professional future.

Writing a cover letter and a resume was the most practical document since they are

some of the documents that graduate school are looking for when students are applying. After

understanding what a cover letter was, I now know the importance of always writing one. In

addition, this course taught me techniques to improve my writing like showing words that

are informal, the proper use of fonts and the ABC format that is required in technical

documents. One of the most influential and important aspects that helped me improve my

development of ideas and writing was the free writing exercises at the beginning of every

class. The free writing exercises gave us a short time to write which I found practical because

in that way, I developed my fluency in writing words and organizing my ideas. Additionally,

Technical Writing helped me in developing teamwork skills which are important in any

workplace’s environment. The home garden helped me understand better the importance of

agriculture and to become more aware of what I am eating and where does it come from.

In conclusion, this extensive writing course gave me the tools to be more fluent in my

writing. Also, I acquired the knowledge about some technical documents that I know will be

helpful in my professional career. Finally, the home garden strengthened my skills and

expanded my knowledge in agriculture which is always helpful to know.
