1 Introduction

1 Introduction
Ring redundancy
The use a DP/PA coupler pair and active field distributors (AFDs) increases the
availability of the PROFIBUS PA. Ring redundancy is created by configuring a ring
structure with two FDC 157-0 DP/PA couplers and up to eight AFDs.
The active FDC 157-0 DP/PA coupler supplies the PROFIBUS PA. If there is a
short-circuit or wire break on the main line of the PROFIBUS PA, the second
DP/PA FDC 157-0 DP/PA coupler also gets active. The DP/PA couples supply the
separated PROFIBUS PA in both directions to the interrupt. The functions of the
PA field devices are retained.
Repairs can be made during operation.

Hardware configuration
Table 1-1 shows an overview of the hardware configuration for using a DP/PA
coupler pair in redundancy mode.

Installation of the hardware configuration with active bus modules and modules for the
"Change Module during Operation" and/or "Redundancy" modes
Follow the instructions below to install the hardware configuration with active bus
modules and modules for the "Change Module during Operation" and/or
"Redundancy" modes.
Table 1-2

1. Mount the ET 200M mounting channel in its place.

2. Insert the bottom edge of the bus module BM PS/IM in the mounting channel and
press it into the mounting channel and push it to the left until it locks in.
3. Insert the bus module pair BM DP/PA in the mounting channel and press it into
the mounting channel. Push them up to the left bus module BM PS/IM so that the
module connection makes contact.

4. Insert the power supply and interface module IM153-2 in the mounting channel in
the bus module BM PS/IM.
Then insert the two FDC 157-0 DP/PA couplers in the mounting channel in the
bus module pair BM DP/PA.
Use the side guides of the bus modules for this. When you screw the modules
tight, at the same time also fasten the bus module on the mounting channel.
5. Mount the bus module cover on the last bus module, in this case BM DP/PA. If
there is no module slotted in a slot, then also mount the backplane bus cover on
the unoccupied slot.

Configuration of the ring structure

Figure 1-1 shows the ring structure configuration
To operate ring redundancy you configure a ring structure with two DP/PA couplers
and at least one active field distributor (AFD). Connect the PA field devices to the
AFD via spur lines.
The maximum length of a spur line depends on the number of spur lines on the
main line (see Table 1-3).

Note You can use a maximum of eight AFDs in the ring structure.
You can connect a maximum of four PA field devices to each AFD.
Altogether, the number of PA field devices in one PROFIBUS PA bus segment is
limited to 31 and 1A maximum current, i.e. you can only connect a maximum of
31 PA field devices in a ring structure.

Functions of the active field distributor (AFD)

The AFD provides the functions below:
• Connection of field devices for PROFIBUS PA
• Automatic bus termination
• Isolation of defective PROFIBUS PA bus segments
• Connection of isolated PROFIBUS PA bus segments after troubleshooting
• Extension of a PROFIBUS PA bus segment during operation

Spur line length

No. Instructions
Set the "PA bus terminator" DIP switch of both DP/PA couplers to the "ON"
1 position to switch on the terminating resistor for the PROFIBUS PA.

On both DP/PA couplers you set the PROFIBUS address with the DIP switches
2 (value range: 3 to 125).
Note:
The PROFIBUS addresses must not be duplicated in one PROFIBUS PA bus
segment.
Set the redundancy mode with the DIP switches on both DP/PA couplers, i.e.
3 set the lowest DIP switch "RING" to the "ON" position to switch on ring
redundancy.
Note:
The presetting of the "RING" DIP switch is the "OFF" position, i.e. coupler
redundancy is switched on in the presetting.

4 Diagnostics
The PROFIBUS PA main line is connected to the active field distributor via PA1
and PA2.
The spur lines to the PROFIBUS PA field devices are connected via X1 to X4 on
the active field distributor.
The diagnostics is done via the LEDs of the modules.
