Introduction
In the context of the Cholera National

Emergency Bureau of Haiti Participative

Zewo-Kolera”, a collective project owned and
operated by several humanitarian partners
with the objective to promote massively
cholera preventive measures, combat

sensitization from wraf of cite-soleil, Carrefour aviation and Route-9 to reach the Place fierte with the Special
Music composed for the “Zero-Cholera Caravan”. Among many activities of sensitization and cholera
prevention, the most catching was: (1) The competition of Poems against cholera between primary-schools
pupils, (2) The Red-Ink Votes where children and adults voted for Zero-Cholera Objectives.
Sensitization and Education reached 97 schools on December 17, and on December 19 approximately 23,000

DAY-OF-EVENT, DECEMBER 19
Passage of the 3 convoys
The Caravan public event-day started
December 19 at 08:00am with three (3)
convoys of mobilization and sensitization. Each
convoy moves slowly, headed by a mobile-
sound hosted by an animator with messages of
gathering and plays the Studio-recorded
theme song of the “Zero-cholera Caravan”.
The first convoy moved from Carrafour aviation,
passing by Gonaives bus station, then reaches
Belecou, Back of Hasco, and then the Market
Place of Cité-Soleil to end on Place Fierté.
The second convoy moved from in the zone
Fougy of the plaine of Cul-de-sac, passed by
Route-9 to reach the populations of Martial,
Duvivier and then reaches Bois-Neuf, Projet-
Drouillard and reaches Place Fierté.
The third convoy started in wraf-of-cite-soleil,
moved slowly through the zones of Soleil to reah
the Place-fierte.
During all the itinerary of the Caravan, as the population was aware two days in advance, we could see the
population, the persons in Tap-tap, on motorcycles and on foot reacting positively to the calls and sensitization
of the convoys, dancing and interacting with the song messages. In spite of tensions that rose in the eve of
Sunday in the zones of the 2nd convoy itinerary, the population welcomed normally the convoy passage.

Red-Inks Votes against cholera

Voting with the thumb in the ink-pad constituted a test of willing
to adopt a change in behavior and to actively fight for Zero-
cholera objectives. The Red-Ink Voting against cholera has
been tremendously accepted by the whole community, those
of all ages. They expressed anger against cholera and a will
that the epidemic spread falls to zero.
Mrs. Brunette ELIAS, Director of “Institution Education
Chretienne” one of the schools participating in the event, took
to microphone to express activeness with the population,
saying that they can't bear it any more, too many deaths, we
vote to protect ourselves and our children, we vote to be
active against cholera, we vote to reach the Zero-cholera in
our schools.

Seances of training for cholera prevention, non-

discrimination and techniques of preparation of Serum-Lakay
A Medical Team of HP hosted a public training on cholera
epidemic in which they explained all the possible ways of
infection and the Preventive measures against cholera,
and the prompt behavior in case of a suspected case.
Emphasis was either put on the need for solidarity and
non-discriminatory behavior toward those that need
urgent assistance in the event. They either practiced
Hand-washing techniques.
One of the young girls that participated in the hand-
washing simulations admitted being a former
cholera patient; she said that she wouldn't be infected if
she had such knowledge.

I items
n support to the trainings, and in an objective to help people access basic
of prevention and preparedness, general distribution of hygiene kits
and ORS was made in two points to the benefit of one thousand three
hundred and ten (1,350) vulnerable families. 1.250 Tickets were previously

An end for an event so enjoying for the population had to be brought to
an end concretely when the UN troops escorted back the three convoys
in a line heading to the outside of the town of Cité-soleil playing the

proud to point up their Red-thumbs to greet the leave of the convoys
while reminding their adherence to the Zero-cholera objective.
