Does a person who predicts an airplane crash really have ESP? Is a new drug for arthritis really more
effective than the ones currently available? Is the temperature on earth in recent years truly higher than it
used to be? All of these questions can be analyzed using statistical methods based on probability
distributions and p-values.

Statisticians use the laws of probability to determine when we're just witnessing variation due to chance
and when something truly exceptional has happened. This logic is key to statistical inference.
