The Hydomura Murder
The Hydomura Murder
Players: 5
Role-play: Medium
Who, What, When, Where and Why? These are the questions which will be asked to determine the
murder story aboard the famous luxury private train, the Hydomura Royal Express.
During five hours of luxury the host of the train, Mr. Leonardo Combridge Smithlaton, is found dead
by his wife aboard the train. After the train has been stopped immediately upon finding the body, all
five passengers who were invited by the host are called together. Mrs. Smithlaton abuses her power
and wishes to have revenge, so she decides she wants to kill the murderer on the same day.
She explains that the five suspects must try and determine by themselves who they think is the
murderer. When the suspects have voted, the individual with the most votes will be killed by the train
guards. Afterwards, a Seer will be called to check if the killer is still among the suspects, and if that is
the case, the game will continue. The Seer can only tell if the killer is around, not who the killer is
exactly. The Seer can only use his detection ability three times. If all detection chances have been
used, and the murderer is still alive, the remaining two suspects are killed, but if the murderer is
killed, the rest may go.
The murderer wins the game if all innocents are killed (even if it means being killed as well), and the
innocents win the game if the murderer is killed.
Character Creation
A characters name can be whatever the player desires. A name is there to be used as an identity, when
starting to blame, accuse or vote. A characters gender can play the role of narrowing down the
murderer. If you can determine the gender of the murderer, that already marks out other genders. Each
player can choose from a limited selection of mask colour and clothing. The list is very limited
because clothing can also help narrow down who the murderer is just as well as gender would.
Mask colours include:
Gold
Silver
Clothing includes:
(Male) Tuxedo
(Male) Suit
(Female) Cocktail Dress
(Female) Sheath Dress
Everyone will be asked in which location they want to be in for the first hour. Their choice must be in
secrecy but there is an exception if there is more than one player choosing the same location. The
murderer knows where all passengers are throughout the game. Depending on where everyone is,
determines where and when the murderer will kill the host, since the murderer must be alone in a car
to carry out the murder.
After choosing their starting location, the passengers choose a different location for the second hour,
and so forth until four locations have been chosen in total. During the moving time, the GM will
notify the players where certain characters are going accordingly. If a passenger is again going to the
same room as another, this will be notified, however if a character goes to a different room, a player
will only be told where one player is going. For example, if a player see’s two other passengers going
to different rooms another than their own, the GM will only notify where the one passenger is going
(same applies if it is three or four as well).
Once all hours are over, the investigation can begin. The players are given another four hours to
search the train for clues. When each hour ends, the players are summoned and a vote to kill must be
made. For every hour, a player can choose to investigate a certain location and then proceed to
investigate one of two weapons. Regardless of whether the weapon was used for the murder or not,
this procedure will carry on until all three hours is complete. Players cannot share any of their
findings.
Between the four hours, in three instances before the voting, players can share only one clue or info to
another player of their choice. The same player cannot be given another clue repeatedly, only once.
During this stage, the murderer has the opportunity to sabotage a clue of any innocent player, which
means the chosen innocent will be given a false clue randomised by the GM accordingly. The chosen
innocent will not be notified if the clue is fake or not. Some time can be offered to the players before
voting to allow everyone to check their clues or information, to try and determine the best choice. The
murderer has to pretend to play along as an innocent and must also partake in the voting process.
