Fostering Mathematical Mindsets

Questions

1. What motivated you to take this course? What about your experiences or your professional
practice made you want to learn about this topic?
2. What are one or two personal goals that you hope this course will help you to achieve? (You
may use the SMART model to assist in your writing your goals if you prefer.)

Answers.

As teacher, I constantly see the struggle of my students regarding the development of different math
skills. Therefore, I find myself motivated to find strategies that enhance mental interventions for
mathematic processes. My experience with students has been mixed, I have met students who have a
broad openness to mathematics, as well as students who show anxiety when performing in the area of
numbers. For this reason, I am interested in the searching of strategies that provide students various
approaches to mathematical procedures without generating any stress or trauma.

My main goal for this course is to promote mathematical thinking in students from third through fourth
grade, developing strategies that reduce the negative predisposition to mathematical processes and
enable an effective execution of online classes.
