ICT in Law Enforcement

1. How is each of the above hardware used in Law Enforcement?

Mainframe: Instead of drawing up statements by hand, police officers use mainframe

machines to document them. These statements may be made over the phone rather than in
person.

Scanners: Scanning devices, such as the Artec Ray, help speed up the investigation of a
crime scene by providing a precise three-dimensional image of the crime scene. The 3D
world can be used by police and insurance agencies to take samples, investigate data, and
examine blood splatter and bullet trajectory. Scanner can be used to scan the fingerprint of
possible suspects.

Printers: Law enforcement authorities may use 3D printing to reconstruct realistic models of
crime scenes, traffic accidents, footprints, and fingerprints, as well as develop architectural
models for raid planning and courtroom use.

Fax Machine: Police departments continue to use them to give fingerprints. They submit and
receive hard copy papers to and from their manufacturers and consumers using fax machines.
The use of fax machines allows the police to quickly copy a text and submit it to another
user.

2. How is each of the above software used in Law Enforcement?

Database: To track down suspects and investigate murders, the police use a variety of
databases. They will search for trends or patterns in crimes, which will help them figure out
whether an individual is responsible for a sequence of burglaries or assaults.

Software for Scanning Photos: This software will be used by the police to search images for
fingerprints or any evidence of the suspect. When trying to identify people's expressions, law
enforcement will do this to search images for facial recognition.

Software: These types of programs help with the prosecution by including credible and
accurate documentation of the perpetrator. Police may use this to classify individuals by
comparing photos, speech recordings, DNA, and fingerprints to those in the database.

Programs: After Law Enforcement officers conduct and record an interrogation, that audio
can used after entering a program to capture certain keywords that can be beneficial to the
investigation.

3. Discuss three (3) things our Police can implement to help maintain law and order in
the society.
 Personal computers can be used by the police to assist with maintaining law and
order. When taking a statement, officers would benefit from using personal laptops
and it would save them time and money. Since people are scared to leave their homes
because of Covid-19, this would be very useful in this situation if someone like this
wishes to file a complaint.
 Police officers may use face recognition and license plate scanning technology on
augmented reality glasses to recognize individuals and cars. This allows officers to
quickly find and arrest criminals, hopefully avoiding lengthy manhunts and possible
offences.
 Drones and other robotic applications enable police and other law enforcement
officials to conduct continuous monitoring and peacekeeping operations without the
need for additional manpower. Drones and robotics act as deterrents of violence at the
very least, and as witnesses and evidence collectors at the worst.
