MANILA - No cure or vaccine has been proven to work against African swine
fever, an agriculture official said Wednesday, responding to reports that some
medicines against the disease are being sold.
“Ang antibiotic ginagamit sa bacteria, hindi sa virus. Walang bakuna o gamot pa sa
ASF. There will be no claim na ’yung antibotic na ’yun ay magiging effective para
malunasan ang ASF,” Agriculture undersecretary Ariel Cayanan said.
He added the public must report to the DA individuals or companies selling such
medicines.
“Ibigay sa amin ang pangalan, organization. We will investigate,” Cayanan said.
Over the past months, dead pigs infected with the swine fever have been turning up
in waterways in Metro Manila, including the Marikina River, forcing officials to
enact protocols such as culling in their respective cities.
Some provinces, including Cebu, have also ordered banning pigs from the metro to
contain the virus.
The Department of Health earlier said that ASF causes high fever, loss of appetite,
hemorrhage, and death among domestic and wild pigs. It does not pose a health
risk to humans.
The Philippines is one of more than 20 countries affected by the African swine
fever outbreak.

Analysis:

Meningococcemia is a rare infection caused by the Neisseria meningitidis

bacteria. This is the same type of bacteria that can cause meningitis. When the
bacteria infect the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord, it is called
meningitis. And there are already 3 kids that had this type of disease, two were
dead and the reason why this disease spread out, it is because of lack of
vaccination of the young boy. “Bagay na naagapan pa sana kung napabakunahan
ang mga pasyente.” Today, diseases are spreading fast and we must protect our
young generation by vaccinating them at an early age to avoid getting sick.
