“I ung my tray and its contents on the ground; and then seated myself at the stairs’-head, hid my face

in my hands, and cried”(Bronte).

The use of parallelism: I ung, seated, hid, and cried, gives the effect that all Isabella’s actions in this scene happened quickly in rapid
chaotic succession.

“Some person entered, out of breath and laughing!“ (Bronte).

Isabella’s laughter when she enter’s Thrushcross Grange is symbolic of her deteriorating mental health and sanity because of her new life
with Healthcliff at Wuthering Heights. She is in poor condition and should be very tired, but she is laughing even though nothing funny
took place.
