1. Black Cats are Often Revered or Feared

There was always mystery around black cats! Even movies and books speak about them
in a … scary way! Those who ever had a black cat, are really in love with them and say
these are the most loveable pets. But the others, thanks to some old beliefs and
superstitions are really scared black cats all about bad luck.

There are some very old roots in this “black cat” phobia people around the world have.
They were known for ages as “witches’ pets” and also … assistants. And people were
always afraid of witches. Remember the middle age when there was all about the “witch
hunt” and thousands of women thought to be witches for several reasons were burnt
alive, but only after they were tortured in order to confess their sins.

Nowadays, people who own and love these animals don’t look quite like witches. They
are simple, usual people who got charmed by the black cats thank to these animals’
personality. Of course, we talk about various personalities just like we find on humans.

2. Some Very Black Cats are nor “Pure Black”

Black, white and red are the primary colors we refer to as being “pure”. This is because
most of the cats usually own as patterns a mix of two or three of these colors.

From mother to cubs, cats carry down, from one to another, a lot and a very complex
series of genes. When you see a cat mostly patterned black, it might not be a pure “black”
cat. Only the ones with two domineering black genes sires will be pure black. But not
always! Still, if one of the parents also has a dormant white or red gene, the kitten may

3. Black Cats Are Considered Lucky in Some Cultures

Many people in the western area of the planet have a lot of superstitions involving bad
luck provided by the black cats. Still, not the entire world believes in these theories.
There also people, in the U.K. for example, but also in Asia, where black cats are
considered lucky. Even so, in the U.K. they believe it’s not a good sign if intersect way
with a black cat. And more than this, in Yorkshire they think it is not good to have a
black cat. Although a lot of people believe in them, superstitions are very complicated

4. The Bombay Cat is the Only Recognized Black Cat Breed

Even if there are a lot of black cats around, the only black cat breed recognized all over
the world is the “Bombay”, developed by Nikki Horner, starting the 1950s. The breed of
“miniature black panther” and crossing a Burmese with a Black American was officially
recognized in 1970. The sad fact about the “Bombay Cats” is that only the ones who
accept black cats, also accept this breed.

It is a very beautiful cat, with a satin look coat, short hair and copper eyes and it has a
great personality! They are very playful pets, they will be really thankful if you decide to
walk them in leash and they are great guardians of the house.

5. Black Cats Are Not Always Named for their Color

Although they don’t get their names as dogs or horses which, while they are black, they
must be called “Blakie” or something, black cat also received names for the color: Salem,
Sable, Boo (as for Halloween, as you imagine) or Ebony. But if you question quickly
some black cat owners you might find some surprise names like “Olive”, “Jasmine”,
“Charlie” and “Pablo”, but, of course, also the classical “Midnight” or “Salem” are
among them.
