Competitive priorities are the strategies that an organization adopts to create, develop, maintain, and
expand competitive advantage. To be precise, they can be defined as capabilities in embedded in the
systems of the organization to support the demands of the market in which organization intends to
compete. Primarily, the competitive priorities lie in the following 6 areas:

 Quality
 Performance
 Cost
 Delivery
 Flexibility
 Customer Focus
 Know-how

So, the process consideration process of competitive priorities depends on the expertise in the areas
mentioned above. For example, if an XYZ organization intends to compete based on the cost, so it may
adopt cost leadership strategy to accomplish this objective. By producing in bulk may reduce the cost of
the product. Therefore, it can be concluded that its ability of mass production has enabled it to compete
on its preferred competitive priority.

Similarly, other firms may prioritize other competitive strategies, depending upon situational factors,
market, and type of the product, resources available, etc. For instance, a fast food company may
prioritize competitive advantage of delivery, cost, and customer focus at the same time.
