Training overview :
Fellows in KSMC pediatric infectious disease fellowship program will be undertaking a
state of art clinical training across the spectrum of pediatric infectious disease.

Clinical Training:
The infectious disease team will be divided into two teams so the fellow will function in
one team under direct supervision of the consultant of that team. The fellows will be routing
in both teams to provide and maintain the exposure to different cases and to work with
different consultants.

In order to optimize the diversity of clinical experiences and to ensure exposure to the
full range of infectious disease cases. In addition to KSMC, fellows will have outside rotation
in other hospital accredited infectious disease fellowship according to the recommendation
of SCHS.

Fellows will participate actively in teaching residents and allied health personals. They
will be able to take in the 2nd year a role of consultant during day time with supervision of
an attending faculty when the fellow is seen as fit to take that role.

The structure of training is as follows:

 Medical Expert
By the end of training the fellow will be able to:

- Develop pertinent exam and presentation skills that thoroughly but concisely
present the important data necessary to develop a daily care plan.
- Perform, interpret the findings of present and document a physical examination that
is relevant and appropriate.

 Investigations and Monitoring

Will be able to:

- Select medically appropriate investigations tools.

- Interpret the results of common diagnostic test.
- Interpret biochemical and hematological investigations.
- Describe the limitations and results of microbiology.
- Understand the indications for monitoring, management and removal of
intravascular catheters.
- Interpret microbiology, serology and molecular results.
- Interpret radiological results.
- Interpret the PPD skin test result.
