Some people say that school should concentrate on teaching student academic subjects that

will be useful for their future careers. Other people say that subjects such as music and
sports are also necessary.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

A promising future is prompted by an efficient education. When it comes to

teaching and learning, many subscribe to the role of academic subjects such as
math and science in securing one’s career path. For the others, however, non-
academic subjects, particularly music and sports, are accorded with great
importance. From my perspective, there should be more emphasis placed on non-
academic subjects considering their huge potentials to a person’s prospect.
Traditionally, academic subjects are the typical measures of success due to their
association with a range of today’s careers. As the world has seen inexorable
technological advances, the flexibility to cope with its changing pattern is,
undoubtedly, the core qualification requirement of many prestigious institutions.
For example, technophiles are more likely to be headhunted by business companies
that major in statistical analysis and research, the world’s current leading areas.
However, the surge of automation in recent years have given rise to a higher rate of
unemployment. This means that tasks connected to numbers and calculation can be
accomplished in the absence of human beings. Thus, placing an emphasis on
academic subjects is counter- productive to job guarantee.
There are compelling reasons why the emphasis on non-academic subjects is
beneficial to the growth of many students. One of which is reflected in a person’s
enhanced mental state. To be more specific, music values the optimization of one’s
relaxation and this often helps learners couple with stress in a more efficient way.
Sports, on the other hand, focuses on team-building and interpersonal skills, which
are the key factors of one’s response to success. Besides, non-academic subjects
can provide people with more career opportunities as they are mostly connected to
the mental aspect of humans. Athletes and musicians, for example, will not be
prone to unemployment since their job performance cannot be outdone by the
emotionless technology.
All in all, it is the non-academic subjects that help students secure a job position.
