CHAPTER 2: RATIO AND PROPORTION

1. Suppose that P2,700,000. 00 is to be allocated for sales department, marketing department, and
advertising department in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4. How much money will be allocated for each department?

Answer:
2+3+4=9
Sales Department: 2,700,000 x 2/9 = 600,000
Marketing Department: 2,700,000 x 3/9 = 900,000
Advertising Department: 2,700,000 x 4/9 = 1,200,000

2. Jacob bought one bulb of elephant garlic for Php 100.00. How many bulbs can Stephanie buy if she
has Php 240.00?

Answer:
240/100 = 2.4
2.4 x 1 = 2.4 or 2 and 2/5 bulb of elephant garlic

3. The money used in South Africa is called the Rand. The exchange rate is 7 Rand for $1. Find how many
dollars you would receive if you exchanged 21 Rand.

Answer:
7 Rand = $1
21 / 7 = 3$

4. Dan bought one package of blackberries for $3. How many packages can Darryl buy if he has $15?
Answer:

one package of blackberries = $3


15 / 3 = 5 packages of blackberries

5. A frame is 9 in wide and 6 in tall. If it is reduced to a width of 3 in then how tall will it be?

Answer:
3 inches is 1/3 of 9 inches, therefore
6 x 1/3 = 2 inches tall
