The 2nd goal of the 2030 agenda is to end hunger, achieve
food security and promote sustainable agriculture. This goal is
extremely important because extreme hunger and malnutrition mean less productive individuals who are unable to improve their quality of life. To give you some numbers, only in 2019 more than 690 million of people were malnourished and if these trends continue the situation is likely to deteriorate even further also due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are so many hungry people out there mainly due to wars, climate changes and declining food production and also the recent pandemic was a huge blow. We can achieve zero hunger with a multidimensional approach. There will be needed investments especially in the agriculture sector for improving food security and creating employment and also in social protection so poor people can have access to food. All of this is because a world with zero hunger can positively impact our economies, health, education, equality and social development. And It’s a key piece for building a better future for everyone. We can help the cause by supporting local farmers or markets and making sustainable food choices, we can also use our power as a consumer and voter, to demand businesses and governments to make the right choices.
