Can Copper Metal be used for the 3D Printing?

Yes, copper has been used successfully in 3D printing for some years now, as copper is a very complex
and useful material, recently, the use of copper material as a raw material for metal-based 3D printing is
increasing. Alloys made from chromium, zirconium copper - i.e. CuCr1Zr - have excellent electrical
conductivity, as well as high elasticity at room temperature. Initially, in the 3D printing industry, making
copper materials was highly distorted and challenging for optimal use. The 3D printing industry is
increasingly using copper as a raw material to create highly defined and highly accurate 3D models.

The design made by Copper CuCr1Zr and the freedom of performance enhanced by it is proving to be
extremely beneficial in the itive derivative manufacturing industry. Especially in places where thermal
management applications are essential for applications. Extensive design freedom in the manufacturing
industry has made it easier to implement non-linear and tapered geometries in complex structures such
as valve blades, fins, heat pipes.

In addition, design freedom saves significant time and money on the production and assembly of
enabled parts by assembling parts. Companies providing 3D printing services use copper to save space
and reduce weight, and this is enabling the growing application of copper in 3D printing. Leading 3D
printing service providers use direct metal laser sintering techniques to create 3D parts using copper
metal as the raw material. This 3D technique enables the printer to produce durable and precisely
designed metal parts.

The development of 3D printing services using copper was difficult in its previous stages, as selective
laser metal (SLM) sinting, the most commonly used 3D printing technique, produced 3D models using
copper as the raw material.

Designers are getting good results in 3D printing tooling using copper. By using copper as a raw material
spot welding can be achieved by hand requiring high electrical conductivity. 3D printing with copper
metal is excellent for the production of low-volume parts, especially for those with which traditional
tooling is very expensive.
