Three ways in which trees keep high water quality include the following: the runoff is lessened in

forested areas compared to urban areas because trees lessen the amount of water reaching the ground
and leaves of trees hold on water in which each leaf hold a bit amount of water, and if the tree has
thousands of leaves it adds up to the amount of held water. This explains why in the urban areas where
there are no trees water hit the ground at one time causing a lot of runoff. Another way is that roots
hold soil in place causing less erosion and the sediment doesn’t enter our water systems and pollute our
water system with all the dirt. it also interrupts water runoff where 100 mature trees hold
approximately 250,000 gallons of rainwater every year. Besides that, trees help cleaning water as water
is cleaned as it goes through root systems.
