How to Upload a Syllabus to

Your Course in Canvas

OVERVIEW
This brief tutorial will teach you how to upload your syllabus using the Files tool, then add it to the
Syllabus section of your course in Canvas.

Step 1:
Once you’ve logged into Canvas and can see your Canvas dashboard, find and click on the
course where you’d like to add a syllabus. This will open your course home page.

Step 2:
On your course home page, you will see a menu on the left side of the screen. Click on the Files
option to open your course files.

Here, you’ll find a list of any files uploaded to your course. To add your syllabus, click on the blue
Upload button on the right side of your screen.

Step 4:
Find your syllabus file wherever you’ve saved it on your computer. Click on the file once, then
click on the Open button to upload your syllabus to your course files.

Step 5:
Once your syllabus appears under your course files, click on the Syllabus option on the menu on
the left side of your screen.

Step 6:
Now that you’re on the Course Syllabus page, you’ll want to add your syllabus. To do this, click
on the Edit button to open the Course Syllabus field.

Step 7:
In this field, you can add text, images, links, etc. Click within the field where you’d like your
syllabus to appear. Then click on the ellipses icon. In the pop up menu, click on the down arrow
just to the right of the document icon.

Step 8:
Because you’ve already added your syllabus to your course files, you’re going to click on the
Course Documents option.

Step 9:
In the pop-up window, find your syllabus file. Click on your syllabus file once. Your syllabus will
now appear in the Course Syllabus field on the left side of your screen. Next, you can click on the
X in the upper right corner of your screen to close the pop-up window.

Step 10:
To save these changes, scroll down and click on the blue Update Syllabus button.

Step 11:
Your syllabus should now appear on the Course Syllabus page of your course where students will
be able to view or download it.
