1a. What happens to a hot cup of tea when put on a table in the room? 1b.

What
happens to water when it is put in a freezer?
Explain how?

read the detail

If a hot cup of tea is left in a room it will lose its heat to its surroundings because the surrounding
temperature is cooler as compared to the hot cup of tea. do remember that coolness never travel
from cold environment to hot environment. it is always heat that travels to its cold environment.
And when we keep room temperature water to freeze in the refrigerator, it will lose its heat to the
cold environment of the refrigerator.

2. Watch the video carefully and answer the questions: a. What is the boiling point
of water? b. What happens to the temperature of the water as it is being heated? *
/
0

The boiling point of water is 100-degree c and the water gains heat and changes into gas.

Yes the temperature of the water increase as it is heated.

c. Does the temperature of the water increase, decrease or remain constant while
the water reaches its boiling point in the above video? Explain your answer. *

incorrect ans,
read the following:

the temperature of the water increase as it is heated and reaches till its boiling point. and once the
water reaches its boiling point and if keep on boiling it, the temperature will remain constant.

3. In which of the three states of matter are the particles the closest together? *
/
0

In solids the particles are closest together.

correct

4. What happens to water when it is put in a freezer? Explain

The water freezes.

Individual feedback

Incomplete ans. read the following as well:

When water is put in the freezer, the water looses heat to it's surroundings. When it has lost
enough heat, it changes into solid( ice )This is called as freezing. The freezing point of water is 0
degree

incorrect ans
do read the following for a better understanding

the speed of the molecules gets faster in the ice when it was heated. it is due to gain of heat
energy.

6. When water boils, we see bubbles in the boiling water. What do the bubbles
contain? *
/
0

The bubbles contain evaporation.

Individual feedback

the bubbles contain water in the gaseous state.

Tdo check your T.bk pg#62 for a better understanding

7.

The washing line clothes will dry first because the water evaporates in the air.

Individual feedback

The washing line cloth in sunlight will dry first because of large surface area. The clothes in the
basket will take more time to dry due to less surface area.

8. For this watch the following video on Humidity and answer the question. a. What
is humidity? Is the rate of evaporation higher or lower when the humidity is less in
the environment? Give a real life example of humidity. *

Explanation
(The rate of evaporation increases when the air is dry or less humid. it means that when the
amount of water vapours is less in the environment then the amount of water present in our
perspiration will evaporate more quickly and thus the rate of evaporation will increase. and if the
presence of water vapours in the environment is more then the humidity will increase and the rate
of evaporation will decrease.)

The real life example of humidity is people perspire more in hot and humid weather since the
sweat does not evaporate easily from our clothes and body.
(and therefore the rate of evaporation will decrease and we will feel more sticky.)
b. Why are we more likely to feel static electricity in dry winters as compared to in
summers? c. Why do clothes dry faster in summer than in winter? *
good effot but the ans is incomplete!!!
read the following for a better understanding:

On summers days, the air contains a lot of water vapours and the water in the air helps to move
the electric charges off surfaces quickly. That is why we experience static electricity more often in
the dry winter than in the humid summers.

C. The clothes dry faster in summer because higher the temperature the higher will be the rate of
evaporation. The molecules in clothes have more energy in summer to dry up than in winter.

the rate of evaporation increases due to the decrease in humidity in the environment and
evaporation decreases due to the increase of humidity in the environment
