Presented by

Bengt H. Fellenius and Mohamad Hussein

January 10 and 11, 2013

at the
DoubleTree by Hilton Orlando at SeaWorld

Seminar Intent
The primary intent of the course is to demonstrate the Unified Method for deep foundations design for
capacity, drag load, settlement, and downdrag for single piles, pile groups, and piled foundations illustrated
with case histories of testing and design analysis. The course aims to show what data one must pull
together and presents processes of analysis and calculations necessary for a design of a specific project.
Static and dynamic testing methods are detailed. Aspects of negative skin friction and associated drag
load and downdrag are emphasized. Settlement analysis is of vital importance to the design of piled
foundations, and the course addresses principles of settlement analysis and provides some of the
mechanics of calculating settlement. Pertinent aspects are included of construction procedures and Load
and Resistance Factor Design, LRFD, is discussed.
