The first character of the fruit of the Spirit is love, which is the greatest because the
very nature of God is love. God’s love cannot fail because it does not require
anything in return. There are three Greek words for love used in scripture.
1. Agapao is God’s love.
2. Phileo is love that finds some value in something or someone.
3. Storge is a love of family.
There is another Greek word for love not used in the scripture, which is eros or erotic
love. This kind of love wants to manipulate someone. Among these kinds of love,
Agapeo love is the first facet of the fruit of the Spirit. This kind of love energizes faith.
Love will obey God’s words and His commandments. If any one loves Jesus, He
promised that God will love that person (John 14:21-23). [1]
