Course Description: Students will draw, design, and print a wide variety of
computer-generated color graphics using a variety of software programs. Students should have
knowledge of basic computer applications as well as basic drawing skills. Students will be
required to have, or purchase, a sketchbook and an art process portfolio (in which to collect final
art works and additional course materials)
Career Pathway: Computer Graphics is an excellent preparation for future careers in Arts and
‘Communication as it enhances visual problem solving, aesthetic perception, and technical skills
within a muttimedia environment. Computer Graphics focuses students to think independently
and critically. Specific careers in the visual communications field such as Graphic Design and
IMustration will be discussed as well as technology's impact on all art disciplines,
Core Learning Goals: The successful student will demonstrate, through their process portfolio
and sketchbook, ability to:
+ Analyze, interpret, and respond to their environment
+ Translate meaning of graphic works through description and interpretation
+ Present knowledge and understanding of The Elements of Art and The Principles of
Design and demonstrate their effective use in the graphic arts
+ Select and analyze works of various artists which record, preserve, highligh
symbolize cultural ideas
+ Compare and contrast graphic art styles of today with various historical art styles and
their influence on today's graphic arts,
+ Examine how societies use graphic arts to communicate and express ideas and analyze
its impact on society
+ Use a variety of art tools, materials, and techniques to solve specific art problems
+ Demonstrate proficiency in the computer graphic process through the use of a variety of
software and tools,
+ Create computer illustrations, commercial layout and advertising designs using the
‘elements of art and principles of design to solve problems of composition
Identity criteria used for aesthetic judgement of computer graphics drawings,
paintings, and graphic designs
+ Apply criteria used for generating work for a portfolio or exhibition

Critiques: After completion of projects, the class will participate in group and/or individual
critiques of the project. The critique is vital to evaluating the effectiveness of the problem solving
process. Your participation in critiques, as well as class discussions is expected.

Licenses will be provided for each student, We will use predominantly Adobe Photoshop and
Illustrator for this class. Information and help will be reviewed for downloading apps and
system requirements on the first day of class.

Daily Routine: Please enter google meets professionally, and be prepared to leam and engage.
During our Google Meet synchronous Times each week I will take roll, and make any
announcements pertaining to the daily lesson, review objectives, and make any special
announcements, This time wil include new instruction material for up to 60 minutes and ample
time to field group and individual questions regarding projects. You are expected to work the
entire period on assigned lessons, Tutorials, projects, graphics, sketchbook/journals,
Recording Google Meets: Recording, video taping, or taking pictures of any synchronous
‘meetings or telephone conversations is strictly prohibited, unless express permission is provided
by the instructor. It isa violation of personal rights and Maryland State law to engage in such
behaviors without permission. The FCPS staff member that is facilitating the Google Meet will
notify students if they are recording. Students that do not want to be recorded can mute and
turn off their camera.
Grading Methods:

Digital Process Portfolios will be evaluated for a grade before each marking period (four times
for the semester for each interim and term grade),

(four times a semester)
Benchmarks: There will be 4 benchmarks for the course, two each quarter. They will be counted
a5 a normal project grade worth 100pts. Details can be found in our Google Classroom.
Extra Help and Make-up Work:During Full Virtual Learning, there are opportunities throughout
each week for students to receive additional support during the afternoon student support blacks
and after school extended learning opportunities.
