CROW WING COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Office of Seott Goddard, Sheriff
Date: May 10, 2021
‘Mayor Aulie,
| am writing this letter to inform you that | am restricting your police department personnel from all
Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office-controlled buildings effective immediately. They will continue to
have access to our jail as needed for their job duties, but they will be limited to the sally port and the
pre-book areas. If these officers need access to other areas of our buildings, they will need to obtain
prior approval from a patrol sergeant or higher rank from my office.
‘This is not a decision | take lightly, but | find it necessary after reading the May 5, 2021, Crosby Courier. |
found Chief Taylor's actions towards retired Chief Kim Coughlin and retired Lieutenant Kevin Randolph
troubling and frankly unacceptable for a person in his position. | cannot consciously allow myself or my
staff to be exposed to any surreptitious recordings that Chief Taylor may be conducting.
‘My office will continue to respond to calls within your city and when your officers request assistance. |
have shared with my staff the concerns with Chief Taylor's actions and have advised them to use caution
when communicating with him. | take pride in the professionalism of my staff and how they serve our
citizens, and the relationships they have with our local police officers. It is unfortunate that there are
instances such as this that lead to distrust and skepticism.
Please disseminate this letter to your city council and personnel that fall under this directive. | will also
forward a copy of this letter to the City of Ironton since your city contracts police services with them. If
you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please contact me at (218) 829-4749.
‘Sincerely,
Scott Goddard
Crow Wing County Sheriff
