FIELD OF THE INVENTION [0002] The invention relates to a hydraulic deve and oon- trol system fora system of positive displacement pumps, and ‘more particulary, to a system which uses a hydraulic drive system as well as fully hydraulic control system which ‘maintains the outlet pressure discharge from the pumps. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 10003] Ics known to provide pumping systems for we in ‘mobile applications such as vehicle-mounted pumping sys- ‘ems. An example of one such system is disclosed in US. Pt No. 6,551,073 BI (O'Sullivan) which discloses a pumping system typically used on a fire tuck. In this application, the ‘ehicle is provided with a hyiranlie deve system whercin @ Tiguid pum for pumping water i driven bya fixed displace- meat hydraulic motor, which motor is in turn driven by variable displacement hydraulic pump. A contoller is pro- Vided to modulate hydraulic output of the variable displace- ‘ment hydraulic pump to maintain a constant liquid pressure st the outlet ofthe water pump The system uses an electronic ‘contol system comprising a motor speed transducer forthe hydraulic motor and a Figuid outlet pressure transduce, ‘which tansdncers are connected to an electronic controller ‘device that thereby varies the output ofthe variable displace ‘ment ideale pump to vary the liquid pressure and control the motor speed. However, the system may be undesirable since foctuations in the liquid outlet pressure may occur Which may make it difficult t quickly make coresponding ‘changes in the variable displacement hyelraulic pump. Fur ther, the electronic contol system may be subject to filure particularly in hostile environments wherein an electronic ‘contol system may be difficult to maintain. [0004] Tc is an object of the invention to provide aa ‘improved pumping system for mobile applications, partiew- larly where a pumping system is provided on vehicles such as a trailer or the like, Further, it is an object ofthe invention to provide a pumping system which provides an improved con- trol of the lguicl outlet pressure supplied by ani pump, and provide a system which is particularly suitable for hostile ‘environments which require a stable drive system for the puunps 2s well asa contol system therefor 10005] The pumping system of the invention is 4 mobile ‘ehicle-mounted pumping system, suchas for water, fuels oF ‘ther suitable Figuid, which mounts on a trailer and may be used for various applications where it is necessary to pimp fuids, such asa variety of liquids ffom remote andor porary storage tanks and facilities. While the following sum- mary may reference liquid pumps for convenience, any of & variety of process fluids may be pumped or distributed by ‘uid distribution equipment. The system comprises one oF ‘more fuidor liquid pumps which are connected to and driven by a drive system for the pumps and by a contol system for controlling the outlet pressure of the liquid or process iid being discharged from the pumps. Dee. 30, 2010 [0006] ‘The pumping system operates the drive system the contro system almost exclusively by hydraulie Nid pres- sure which avoids the necesity ofan electronic contol sys- tem to control the pump outlet pressure which may be more ‘complex o maiatsin and suscepible to fulure, particularly in harsh, hostile or remote environments [0007] The main system components are a diesel engine ‘one oF more uid pumps for distributing the process tid, \whiel pumps preferably are eachdrivenby a hydraulic motor, a hydraulic drive system, which generates hydraulic fluid pressure to drive each motor, and a hydraulic contol system. ‘which controls and varies the output of the process fukd pressure ofthe liquid pumps by varying the pressure of the hydraulic uid that drives each hydraulic motor. The process ‘Iuid pumps preferably are positive displacement pumps ‘whieh pump liquids as the process thd [0008] To generate the hydraulic system pressure, a drive shail ofthe diesel engineis connected toand drives a variable isplacement hydraulic pump, ie. main pump, wherein the ‘ump output is the system pressure chat is supplied to and Arives the hydraulic motors. The main pump has a variable ‘ouput that selectively varies the system pressure generated thoreby to thereby vary the motor operation which in turn, varies the pump output from the uid pumps. The pumping system operates upon the principal that the system pressure Ariving the motors directly corresponds fo or is proportional to the liquid output pressure in the fluid distribution system. For example, $200 psi of hydraulic system pressure supplied to the hydraulic motor generates an outlet pressure from the Tiquid pump of 150 psi. A controlled reduction inthe system pressure correspondingly reduces the Muid pump oxtlet pres sure such tha eontroling the hydraulic system pressure driv~ jing the motors also controls the fui pressure that is outpost from the pumps. [0009] ‘The output ofthe main pump is controled mechani- cally by swash plate wherein the postion ofthe swash plate js selectively moved to vary the pump displacement and outlet pressure generated by the main pump when driven by the Giesel engine. Preferably, the output of the main pump is ‘accomplished by desitoking the min pump. The aveation ‘comprises the method and system for moving the swash plate {0 control the system pressure nnd thereby contol the nid ‘pump output and vary the Fiquid output pressure supplied to the distribution system, [0010] The swash plate is mechanically moved by a swash plate control which is pressure balancing solenoid that is pressurized on one side by a low change pressure suppl by ‘charge pump which charge pump isalso driven by te diesel ‘engine. The presure balancing solenoid is pressurized on a second side by a variable contra pressure which preferably is ‘destroking presure that destroKes the min pup to Vary is ‘uipat. This contol pressure is manually adjustable by a system contol valve to set the maximm system pressure and ‘maintain such pressure. Ths system control valve receives the high system pressure from the outlet of the main pump and thas 8 manually rotatable valve wherein a contol kno} is rotated to set the max system pressure. In tis regard, the control valve is adjusted which essentially generates an adjusted pressure exiting the contol valve which is fed to the ‘swash plate contol solenoid as the destroke presse to vary the swash plate in a manner that quickly varies the system pressure tht i opt fm the matin pomp in correspondence {o the adjusted destroke pressure supplied to the solenoid, US 2010/0329892 AI [0011] Initially, thecharge pressure supplied tothe pressure balancing solenoid moves the swash plate sa that the pump is at fll stoke, Once the system pressure builds and opens the sequence valve, the conrol pressure or destroke pressure is supplied the swashplate canto to desteoke the main pump ‘away From full stoke lo stabilize the system pressure atthe ‘max system pressure governed by the system control oF sequence valve [0012] For example, the system pressure may be $200 psi but the system control valve is adjusted to reduce this maki mum system pressure to 4200 psi as the adjusted maximum system pressure, The adjusted pressure is ata high pressure andi supplied to pressure reducer so that a reduced contol pressure is usable inthe pressure balancing solenoid in con- Jjunetion with the lower pressure generated by the change pump wherein the relative magnitudes of the control pressure ‘and charge pressure vary the swash plate postion, This reciuced contol pressures fed to the swash plate control and balances with the charge pressure from the charge pump. Preferably, the control pressure destrokes the pump sO as to ‘operate as adestoke pressure. The swash platecontto there tore has two balanced pressures which find equilibrium by ‘mavement ofa spring-bissed piston the swash plate control ‘which piston then mechanically moves the swash plate to ‘contol the output displacement ofthe main pump. [0013] "Astheswash plate moves, it owersthe pump output pressure from the main pump which thereby reduces the pressure tothe motors which in tum reduces the outlet pres sure ofthe iguid pump. Hence, by manually adjusting the system control valveby rotating the knob, the system pressure driving the motors sraisedor lowered which hereby eases oF Jowers the outlet pressure of the liquid pump, 10014) Inthis mamer, thesystem ofdriving and controlling the water pumps is all hydraulic and vitally no electronic ‘controls are required to operate the system at a set outlet pressure, While some electronics may be provided primarily Jor system monitoring and safety shutoif, such electronics ‘ay be omitted or disabled for various reasons andthe pump- ing system will continue o operate. Also, thisisa fest reacting system. When water valvesorother process valves ofthe fic disiibution system are closed downstream of the liquid pumps by an operator, this dramatically stops the liquid low yet there is no pressure surge in the system that would be ‘cased ifthe pumps kept opersing after the process valve was ‘closed, Ths ia particular eoncera for postive displacement pumps which differ from centrifugal pamps. The pumping system 11 in paricu- Jar is mounted to the taler fiame and transportable on @ secondary vehicle by the hitch portion 16. Iwill be under- stood tht the pumping system LH may also have uses and applications wherein the system is mounted on a sel-pro- pelled vehicle such as a truck or the like. This pumping System LL is adapted to be removably connected to other components of the fluid distribution system sveh as pipe couplings and a Tiguid or fuel storage tank or other nid ‘soue fom which a Hid is roceived and then pumped by the ‘pumping system 11 downstream toa Mid distribution lo: ‘ion. For example, the uid most preferably isa figuid such as water of fuel which may then be purnped for various uses from a storage tank [0027] FIG. 14 isa pictorial view ofthe overall fla han- dling system 10 while FIG. 1B is a hydraulic schematic ‘agran ofthe pumping system 11 as sch is mounted on the vehicle 12. Generally a6 to the pumping system 11, such system includes a diesel engine 17 which defines a self contained power source including ts own fuel supply sos 10 be fully finetional snd operational, The power souree also ray be another type of equipment providing rotational energy tothe shaft 37 such as an electric motor, gus engine or the like, [0028] The diesel engine 17 in tums connected tothe mai ‘pump assembly 18 whichis rotatably driven by the engine 1 {to generatea hydraulic pressure thats used todrive adalitional ‘comportents of the system. Futher, the main pump assembly 18 generates such hydraulic pressure s0 as to drive ane or mone hyelraulie motors 19 which each deve afd distrib ‘ion component that preferably is a fiid pump 20 that is mtatably driven by itsydrauie motor 19. The ls pumps 20 preferably are postive displacement pumps which receive a US 2010/0329892 AI process fluid through a respective inlet 21 and dist barge such process fii though an outlet 22 (FIG. 1B), The inlet 21 of ‘each fuid pumps 20 receives fluid from an inlet pipe 24, ‘which pipe 24 as a coupler which in use would beremovably ‘connected to supply hoses, pipes or the lke 28 (FG. 13) for receiving Muid from a sorage tank or other similar Mid source or supply. The pump outlets22 nur connect to outlet Pines 2 having couplers or couplings 26 for removable con- ection to ud distribution piping, hoses or the like 27 (FIG. 1B) which distribute dhe pump fuid to particular applications suel as for water supply or uel supply 10029] As will be described further herein, the pumping system 11 also includes a heat exchanger 31 cooled by aa ‘engine-drven fan 32, anda contro panel 34 fom which an ‘operator 38 can contro operation ofthe engine 17 and the remaining components of the pumping system 11 10030] In operation, the intemal combustion engine 17 has a drive shaft 37 shown in FIG. 1B which is drvingly con- nected to the main pump assembly 18 10 penerate a system pressure that drives thehydaule niotors 19. Themovors 19 in turn drive the fluid pumps 20 to generate an outlet pressure slischarge from the cutlets 22 ofthe fluid pumps 20 by which the process id is distributed though the outlet pipes 25. he ‘ain pump assembly 18 and its connections tothe hydraulic motors 19 generally define « hydric drive system that ‘generates a lydraulc fd presse to drive each motor 19 [0031] Further, the main pump assembly 18 includes 2 hydraulic contol system 39 which comprises change pump «40 zotaably driven by the drive shaft 37 to generate a contol pressure used by the eontrol system 39 to control operation of themain pump assembly 18 and thereby control the hydraulic system pressure generated from the main pump assembly 18 In this regard, the main pump assembly 18 also includes @ variable displacement hydraulic pump defining a main sys- ‘em pump 41 which is driven by the driveshaft 37. The main pump 41 has an adjustable pump output which defines the System pressure that i supplied to and drives the hydraulic ‘ator units 19. This main pump 41 has variable ona that Sceetively varies the system pressure generated thereby 10 thereby vary the motor operation, which in tim varies the ump output ofthe process uid. The pumping system 11 of the invention operates upon the prineiple thatthe system pressure diving the motor units 19 directly corresponds to oF 's proportional to the Muid outa pressure atthe ottlets 22 of the uid pumps 20, Controlled reduetions or increases in the system pressure comespondingly reduces or inereases the pump outlet pressure such that controlling the hydraulic sys- tem pressure driving the motor ints 19 alse controls the fi pressure output from the fuid pumps 20. To vary the main Pump output, the variable displacement main pump 41 has 2 swash plate 42 by whieh the pump displacement is adjusted. ‘The control system 39 also comprises a control manifold 43, ‘which permits adjustment ofthe maximum system pressure by goveming the displacement ofthe swash plate 42, prefer ably by destroking the swash plate, which thereby varies the system pressure and varies the fluid pomp omtp. [0032] -Tohydraulicelly tum the main pump assembly 180m ‘and off, an actuator assembly 45 is connected to the main pump assembly 18, The following discussion more specifi ‘ally describes the components ofthe schematic diagram of FIG. 1B and the operation thereof, wherein FIGS. 2-4 are ‘enlarged partial sections of FIG. 1B. [0033] Referring to FIG. 2, the uid pumps 20 and the hydraulic motor units 19 ae shown i interconnected diving Dee. 30, 2010 ‘elation, The Muid pumps 20 preferably ae iguid pumps and in particular are BLACKMER™ GLE(W) 4 pups or pos bly TIXLS postive displacement pumps currently sold by [Bluckmer Pumps. These pups 20 receive Mud fromasupply source and pump such fuid downstream through the diste- ‘bution system. The fluid can be any suitable type suel as water o fel Preferably, the slected process uid sofa type ‘whercin changes in the distribution system affect the tone ‘through the fie pump and motorsand thereby cause rest ant effect tothe system pressure 034] ‘Taeautets ofthe pumps 22 preferably operate at the ‘sme outlet pressure so that te pumped uid disehanged from the pumps 20 passes through the coupler 26 to the down- stream components othe distribution system. Preferably, the pumps 20 are operated a a speed Which generates 10 psi of ‘outlet pressure, although the particular outlet pressure may vary therefrom depending upon the particular Mid distribu- ‘ion application. Hence, the pumping sstem 11 isdesignedt0 vary the outlet pressure from the pumps 20. The particular outlet pressure may be monitored by a pressure gauge 47 ‘whieh is shown proximate the pumps 20 ia the schematic diagram but would be physically located on the control panel ‘3M next o the operator 38 (FIG. 1A). [0035] The outlet pressures controlled and maintained at ‘sired pressure inthis pumping system 11 by varying the system pressure operating the motor units 19 which system pressure fs diet relationship to the pump outlet pressare ‘renerated thereby In this regard, the pumps 20 are rotatably riven by the hydric motor units 19. In particular these hydraulic motor units 19 inchnde fixed displacement hydea- licmtors 0 which ar each drivingly connected toa respec- tive one ofthe pumps 20 by an intermediate drive shall $1 ‘The hytdranlie motor units 19 include inet ports BE which supply pressurized system pressure tO the motors $0, and ischarge ports A which allow the hydawulc sid to How ‘downstream back to the main pump assembly 18 3s will be described in further detail herinaller. More particularly, ‘main pressure supply line 3 is provided which receives the system pressure generated by the main pump assembly 18 ‘and supplies such system pressure to fow-dividing valve or Tow divider $4 which in tira supplies the pressurized system ‘uid through supply Ties $8 to the inlet ports B fr effecting ‘lational operation of the hydrate motors 80 [0036] The discharge ports in tum connect to return lines 86 which connect together to a common retum Tine 57 that ‘returns fo the main pump assembly 18. In this manner, the hydraulic motors $0 are driven or operated by the flow of -aydraulic pressure fluid through these lines 83 and 85-87, and the rotational speed of the motors $0 directly relates to the system pressure being supplied to the main supply line $3 and the supply lines $5 connected tothe flow divider 84 Prefer ably, the system pressure has a maximum operational pres- sure of about 5200 psi whieh, when suppliod to the motors 80, zenenstes a uid pressure at the pump outlets 22 of about 150 ‘si. Ths typically isthe maximum outlet pressure that is esirable for operation of the pumping system 11 of the invention although the skilled artisan will readily appreciate tat the system components may be varied to vary these ‘operational pressures for both the system pressure and the ‘Pump outlet pressure. The wstem also has a minimum oper fional presse of about 1500-2000 psi, which pressure ean sil be supplied to the moves $0 but may not be sient t0 effect rotation of the fuid pumps 20 0 that even at this jin operational pressure, the punsps donot operate and US 2010/0329892 AI approximately 0 psi pressure is encountered at the pump cutlets 22. Hence, a certain level of pressurization may be provided as te system pressure while the system is consid- ‘ered to be “ol” since no pumping accu 0037] It has been found that by increasing the pressure between the minimum operstonal pressure and the maxi- ‘mum operational pressure, an approximately linear reation- ship is found between the system pressure and the outlet pressure of the product punips 2030 that varying of the system pressure also causes a correspondent variation in the pump outlet pressure. I also has been found thatthe system pressure also luctates depending upon the torque found the pumps 20 such that when 2 control valve 60 (FIG. 2) may be opened, the pressure inthe distribution lie drops whieh thereby allows the pump t© spin faster and results in the hydraulic motor 80also being able to spin faster which results ina system pressure drop. As will be described herwinafler, the pumping system 11 automatically responds to any’ Tve- tuations in system pressure by automatically adjusting the positon of the aforementioned swash plate 42 in the mi Pump 41 to thershy increase the system pressure which Increases the motor speed and thereby inereases the pump cui from the pump outlets 22 to thereby maintain the ‘desired fluid outlet pressure. As such, che system 11 quickly reacts to minimize substantial factuations in process fii pressure asthe fd distbution valves 60 andthe like are ‘opened or closed, Ths reaction also occurs upon closing of 3 i distribution valve 60 and prevents a pressure build-up in the system, In particular, the hydraulic motor 80 slows dowa asthe valve 60 iselosed and shuts off the flow of process uid ‘which stopping increases the system pressure in main supply Tine $8. The pumping system 11 then reats thereto and de- strokes the main pump 41 by movement of the swash pate 42 ‘o again adjust te system pressure and avoid pressure build- ups such sin the outlet ines 25 being supplied by the pumps 20. This automatic adjustment ofthe system pressure found in the mai supply line 83 is socomplished through the control system 39 which will be deserted further hereinafter relative WoFIGS. 3 and 4, 10038) Lastly as to FIG. 2, additional pressure lines 61 ‘connect tothe hea exeluanger 31 (FIG. 3) anda filler unit 62 [0039] | Refering next to FIG. 3 and the operation of the ‘arable displacement pump 41, such pump 41 is rotatably driven by the engine driveshaft 37. This pump 41 has pump ‘outlet 63 which connects to the main supply’ Hine 89 at dis ‘chargeport Pso asto supply the pressurized bydraulic Hid to the hydraulte motors 80, The hydraulic motor rem line 57 ‘eonnceis wo the return port S and supplies the pressurized uid back to an inlet 64 ofthe main pump 41. The displacement of the pump 41 and the outlet pressure at pump outlet 63is varied by the swash plate 42 wherein the provision ofa swash plate and movement of «swash plate to vary pump displacement is known stracture. Havsever, controlling the swash plate 42 is provided in an inventive manner in the pumping systems 11 of the invention. 0040] Ia this regard, the swash plate 42 is mechanically ‘moved and adjusted by the mechanical connection to 8 con- twol operator or swash plate control 66 which preferably is provided as a pressure-balancing solenoid diagrammatically ‘Mustated in FIG, 3. This swash plate contol 66 is fst side connection 67 anda second side connection 68 which are ‘each configured to receive pressurized fluid therein. The ‘wash plate conteo! 66 spring-biase from both ses and is ‘operable by differential pressures being applied tothe fist Dee. 30, 2010 ‘and second sides 67 and 68 to thereby define the relative position and movement of the swash plate 42. Operation of the swash plate control 66 is effected by providing the pees- sures on te fist and seoond sides 67 and 68 wherein the frst side pressure is provided by an adjustable control pressure, Which preferably isu desiroking pressure that strokes the ‘pump 41 and is adjusted manoally by the operator 38 10 ‘gencmte automatic contol ofthe system pressure in supply Tine 58. The second side pressure atthe second side 68 i 3 hydraulic pressure generated by and supplied by the afore- ‘mentioned charge pump 40. nother word, the charge pump 440 supplies w charge pressure to dhe swash plate conte 66, [0041] To provide control to the control system 39, a con- trol valve 70is provided. The contro valve 70s two pres- stre Fines 72 and 73 consected to the frst and second side ‘connectors 67 and 68 of the swash plate contol 66 ta thereby ‘canto the flow of the destoke oF control peessure and the ‘charge pressure. The contol valve 70 also is connected to 2 supply line 78, which supplies the charge pressure, and is connected to tank 76. Tae control valve 70 is mechanically ‘operated by an valve operator of valve control 78 which in tm is connected by a pressurized hyloulic supply line 79 that is pressurized through the onvof? atuator assembly 48 (FIG. 4), The actuator assembly 48 furter includes a manual aetustor 80 which is operable (actuate the control valve 70 ‘and turn the main pumping assembly 18 on oro, [0042] With respect tothe charge pump 40 (FIG. 4), such ‘charge pump 40 is supplied with hydraulic Aud through inet port B which connects t0 an upstream supply Tine 81 and coves hydraulic fluid from tank 82. The charge pump 40 discharges pressurized Mid davsastream through outlet port ‘Nand then to pressure line 83 which in sum eonneets tothe ‘aforementioned charge pressure line 75, The charge pressure line 75 supplics the hydraulic Buid a the charge pressure to the canto! valve 70 and then dovsnstream tothe swash plate ‘control 66, Preferably, the charge pressures ata substantially Jower pressure than the system pressure generated by main ‘pump 41-Inthis regard, the charge pressures approximately 5300 psi or such other suitable lower pressure Which ean be supplied to the swash plate contol 66. [0043] Asta the control ordestroke pressure supplied tothe lint side connector 67, this control pressure is generated ‘through and govemed by the contol manifold 43 reterenced bows, This contol manifold 43 receives pressurized system ‘Tuid atthe high system pressure through the supply line 84 ‘which connects tothe supply fine 8S a oxtlet port Mi, (FIG. 3) Which in tm connects to the eoatrol manifod 48 at inlet connector 86. The physical structure of the contol manifold 4Bisschematicaly illustrated inFIG. Sand more specifically illustrated in FIGS. 87. [0044] ‘This manifold 4 inchades a main housing 88 which thas the inlet connector 86 tht serves as high pressure line into the manifold 43 and supplies such high pressure to @ pressure adjustment valve, namely a pressure sequence valve 590 which is adjustable to vary the maximum system pressure of the system. In particular, the pressure sequence valve is ‘mantally adjustable to adjust the pressure in the downstream pressure line 91 which hs an adjusted downstream pressure ‘herein that then is supplied to a pressure reducer or pressune- valve 92. The pressure reducer 92 and sequen valve 90 in tuen connect to an outlet connector 93 that di charges through line 94 to tank 98, [0045] Tae control manifold 43 thereby has a destroke ou Jet port 96 that supplies pressure that has been both: 1) US 2010/0329892 AI adjusted to a set maximum pressure that may be lower oF higher than the existing system pressure which may bein the range of 1500-5200 psi in the preferred system design; and 2) has been pressure reduved so thi it sata pressure compa rable in magnitude to the charge pressure supplied by the ‘charge pump 40. Hence, the oullet port 96 provides a ‘adjusted contol pressure that is supplied through supply ine {970 inlet por Y" on the main punap assembly 1 and then suppliedto pressure line 9810 the fist side connector 67 ofthe swash plate control 66, The swash plate control 66 now receives the charge pressure on one side and the adjusted ‘control pressure oa the second side which typically may be at ‘unequal pressures. Theajusted control pressurepreferbly is jn the range of 60-232 ps although this may vary dependent upon the system design and configuration, 10046] | Ulimatel ‘charge pressure effect displacement inthe pressure-balancing solenoid, ie. the swash plate control 66, to thereby effect adjustment of the angle of the swash plate 42 to adjust the ump output from the main pump 41. This then hiss direct ‘effect upon the system pressure and actually causes a corre sponding change, Le. inerease or docrease, in the system pressure. 10047] | More particularly, when te engine 17 operates, this ‘eases ration ofthe main pump 41 andthe charge pump 40 with the charge pump 40 generating the above-described charge pressure, Whea the om off actuator 48 is turned on, the valve control 78 is actuated through pressure line 79 to oper- tte the control valve 70 and supply the charge pressure though line 73 fo the swash plate control 66. Preferably, this fully strokes dhe swash plate 42 and main pump 41 generates hydraulic Huid pressure up to the system pressure. This sy tem pressure is then supplied throwgh line 8§ tothe control manifold 43 and specifically tothe sequence valve 90, The sequence valve 90s nommally closed buts seo maxim pressure, When the system pressure reaches the preset max pressure, the sequence valve 90 opens, and generates the ‘contol pressure supplied tothe frst side connector 67 ofthe pressure balancing solenoid 66 when thea operates to ‘esteoke the pun 41. The contol pressure therefore prefer ably sa destroking pressure that allects the stroke ofthe main pump 41 andthe output therefrom. Once this control pressure 's supplied, the solenoid 66 is subject to oth the destroking ‘contol pressure an the charge pressure which tendstostroke the pump so that these competing pressure adjust the min pump 41 toa point less than ful stoke or in other words, 0 the point where the system pressure is maintained at the ‘maximum se pressure. The sequence valve 90 may quickly ‘cle between open and closed to thereby continually adjust 42 and maintain the system pressure at the set [0048] Hence, ina frst aspect the system pressure in sup- Ply line $3 directly comrlates to but controls the outlet pres Sure at the pumps 20, wherein the system pressure is con- twolled by’ the pressure sequence vaive 90 and the control ‘manifold 43. This allows the maxim system pressure to be set. The sequence valve 90 typically is physically located on the control panel 34 proximate the pressure gauge 47 so that asthe sequence valve 90 is manually adjusted, ie. the knob thereotis manually rotated, the direct effect ofthese changes in the system pressure will be seen as changes inthe pump ‘ure pressure, although the sequence valve 90 has no direct ‘connction or direct control to the pump olt pressure since the sequence valve 90 only controls hydraulic pressure and Dee. 30, 2010 does not dicey conte proces Hid pressure or even mea Sure sume To set the system pressure the operator 3 mae ally adjust the sequence valve 90 while watching te process uid pressure gage 4 so that it appears the operator 38 is ict sting the process id pressure although inact Jing dheliyduubicaystem pressure isbeing set which causes inet adjustment othe process id presure through the fntersonacced motors Sand pumps 20.Ax such, the bya lie sytem pressure is used asthe contol means for msg corresponding changes in te proces hid presure. Furie te sequence valve 90 and the connection to the pressure balancing solenoid 66 sets the maximum system pres or coperstional pressure and maintains such presse st rele ‘ively cons vale. {0049} In. second aspect, this arangement also provides {or virwally immediate changes in system pressure based ‘pon changes in operation of te pumps 20and the Maw ofthe proces ud therethrough which may be affected by opening fund closingo the id dstbution valve 60 In hit rogan 8 the valve 60 is opened or closed, this will lfet or cause efages in the gue ofthe pumps 20 and assoeated motors 50 which thereby will fet changes in the system presse ‘These changes inthe system pressure such as inline $3 also transmit through the drive and con system and specifically the contol system wherein such system pressure changes pass dtctly tothe conto manifold 43 which will cause the Sequence valve 90 to open o else. This therefore varies the lesioking contol pressure being transite to te swash plate contol 66, This is aeeomplised by the sequence valve 590 being normaly closed unt the mx system pressure is reached: The actal level of the max system presse does ‘ary depending upon mandal adjustment of the seaence ‘alo 99 the system pressre ding operation drops bole {he maxisiam pressing this would them cause the sesience valve to elose which would reduce the destoking contol Pressure which would ery cause the sas plate to move fun increase the pump output w aps increase the system pressure back up othe maior system pressure, When the tax stem pressures again ached the sequence valve 90 ‘Wold gain re-open and pressurize theft sie of hep se-balaneing solenoid 66 to de-stroke the pump 80 38 to prevent overprssurng of the lines $3 {00S0] This system reacts very quickly o changes in the system pressure so as to quickly Increase or decrease any {cations in pressure to the maxims presse desired ence, the tlt pressure fom the Rid pimps 20 main- luna the desire pressure, and changes in conditions inthe proces lu ines, uch as by opening and closing of valves, fue viwlly unnolieable de wo the quick reaction ofthe Ge-stroking of the min pomp 41 as accomplished hy the onto system 39. {008t] The deve and contol systems as strated in 1G Barcessentally al hydraulic o thatthe poping sytem 1 can be continously operated witout requeing oF elying yon separate electronic contr systemsor sensors tobe able {@itan sue system in operation, While electoni monir toring and safety systems might sil be provided o enhance the pumping system 11, the Foss or ombsion of such eee- teonie monitoring or sasty systems would not prevent the pumping system 1 fom operating.
