A) Read the dialogue between two seafarers in a cruise ship who, after a week of hard
work, they have the weekend off. Let’s see what are their plans and intentions for
the future. Mark with colour red the sentences with WILL and with colour green the
sentences with GOING TO. Then identify their function.

Diego: Hi Marcelo! How are you doing today?

Marcelo: I am exhausted. I worked very hard during all week, we had some problems in the
engine machine room and the chief engineer was furious. How about you Diego? How was
your week?
Diego: It was tough too. Because, as the master was sick, I had to be in charge of the
navigation all week long and as the weather was stormy, with huge waves, I had to be on
watch most of the nights. But we have to be happy because from now on up to Sunday
evening we have holidays and we can enjoy all the facilities in the ship.
Marcelo: You are right! Let’s plan our days off. I heard that tonight there is a great action
movie in the cinema, I think I will go and see it. But before, look at the sky, it is an
awesome night, the stars are shining and it’s not going to rain, so how about going for a
swim?

Diego: I am sorry Marcelo! I have already arranged some plans with Sebastián tonight.
First, we are going to have some hamburgers and beers at the bar and then we are going to
go to the Casino. Would you like to come?
Marcelo: No, thanks. I don’t like Casinos. Besides, I think I won’t win. I prefer going to the
cinema alone ajaja. However, I will join you tomorrow in your activities.
Diego: That ‘s great. Let’s check the weather forecast for tomorrow. Look! It is going to be
sunny and very hot, so how about going to the swimming pool in the morning?
Marcelo: Yes, I will join you tomorrow morning!!! And what can we do next? I think the
gym will be open from 9 am to 2 pm, so let’s do weightlifting!! I need to be in good shape
because I am going to invite Carol, the 2nd Officer, to have dinner but please don’t tell
anyone.
Diego: Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone!!! Oh!! I almost forgot it! Today ´s my mother’s
birthday and I have to call her through Skype but I have never used that application before.
Will you help me Marcelo?
Marcelo: Sure!! I will help you in an hour because before, as I am so dirty, I will have a
bath.
Diego: Don’t worry! It is Ok! We still have time. See you in my room in an hour!! Bye!!
Marcelo: Ok! Bye bye
