Sertraline originally was created and marketed for the treatment of major depressive disorder it is
now approved for the management of panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-
traumatic stress disorder (Lochmann, & Richardson, 2019; Woroń, Siwek, & Gorostowicz,
2019).
The pharmacokinetic of Sertraline is that of a slow absorption after oral administration
weakly active metabolite that easily accumulates to form a greater concentration in blood
plasma. The fact that sertraline is mainly excreted by the kidneys 22-36 hours after
administration once therapeutic levels are achieved. However, only minimal data have been
published to support useful correlations between sertraline plasma concentrations and therapeutic
or adverse effects. Generally, all medication carries secondary side effects that can potentially
cause serious health issues, furthermore these side effect can impact certain groups of people
more than others, however these side can effect certain groups more drastically than others and
this is due to the pharmacokinetics of Zoloft and the, there are several side effects that hold
One side effect of sertraline which is the generic name for Zoloft is a condition called
serotonin syndrome, besides this side effects such as irregular heartbeat, loss of appetite, vision
changes, tremors, decreased sexual drive and increased sweating are among the side effects
experienced by taking Zoloft (Lochmann, & Richardson, 2019; Woroń, Siwek, & Gorostowicz,
2019).
