I. PURPOSE:

(A) To describe the procedure for the determination % of Ammonia Bulk Chemical.
(1) To acquaint the new staff with procedures adopted for determination % of Ammonia Bulk
Chemical.
(2) Keep updated about the changes in the procedures.
(3) To serve as a training document.
(B) To Acquaint the staff about Hazards and Risk associated there of and suggest the means and
Risk management procedures

II. SCOPE:

(A) The document explains the standard procedure for the


(1) To find % of Bulk Ammonia Chemical.
(2) To prepare standard solution for Calibration/Standardize and Test.
(B) The document explains the risks associated in acts and means to mange them.

III. PROCEDURE:

(A) N/10 H2SO4 Solution.


(1) Take 2.66 ml Conc. H2SO4 , dilute it with D.M.water.
(2) Make the volume 1000-ml with D.M.water.

Methyl Orange Indicator solution.


(B)
Take 0.1 gm of Methyl Orange powder on a butter paper.
(1)
Transfer it to a 250-ml Beaker.
(2)
Add 100 ml D.M.Water and dissolve it.
(3)
Store in Plastic bottle. Put stopper and label on the bottle.
(4)
Use the Solution within One month.
(5)
N/10 Na2CO3 Solution.
(C)
5.3 gm Sodium Carbonate powders dissolve in D.M.water and makes the volume 1000-ml
(1)
with D.M.Water.
(D) Phenolphthalein Indicator solution.
(1) gm of Phenolphthalein powder on a butter paper.
(2) Transfer it to a 250-ml Beaker.
(3) Add 100 ml Methanol and dissolve it.

(4) Store in Plastic bottle. Put stopper and label on the bottle. Use the Solution within One
month
(E) Method of Analysis.
(1) Dissolve 1.0 gm Ammonia in D.M.water and make the volume 100-ml D.M.Water.
(2) Take 10 ml above Sample.
(3) Using 2-3 drop Phenolphthalein Indicator.
(4) Triturate against N/10 H2SO4 Solution.
(5) Note the Burette reading. (A)
(F) Calibration
(1) Take 10 ml H2SO4 in Beaker.
(2) Add Methyl Orange as Indicator.
(3) Triturate against N/10 Na2CO3.
(4) Color Change Red To Yellow.
(5) Note the Reading, It should be near By 10 ml Consume N/!0 Na2CO3.
(G) Calculation
(1) 1000 ml 1 N H2SO4 = 17.0 gm NH3
(2) 1.0 ml 0.1 N H2SO4 = 0.0017 gm NH3 = 1.700 milligram NH3
(3) In 10 ml Sample, Qty of NH3 (B) milligram. = ( A ) x 1.700
(4) In 100 ml Sample Qty. Of NH3 ( C ) mg = ( B ) x 10
(5) In 1.0 gm Sample Qty. Of NH3 ( D ) gm = ( C ) / 1000
(6) In % Of NH3 = ( D ) x 100 / gm of Sample

(B) Methyl Orange Indicator
(C) N/10 Sodium Carbonate( Na2CO3 ) Solution
(D) Pheoplphthelien Indicator

V. TOOL REQUIRED:
(A) Beaker. : Capacity 250 ml
(B) Measuring cylinder : Capacity 50 ml.
(C) Burette ( 0.1 ml Graduation) : Capacity 25 ml.
(D) Bulb Pipette : Capacity 10 ml.
(E) Weigh Balance :

1.3.1. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes .
1.3.2. Remove contaminated cloths, shoes ,.

1.4.1. Flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes.
