FOOD CHAIN iSLAND ‘A Solo Game by Scott Almes OVERVIEW On this forgotten island in a tiny corner of the ocean the animals are hungry! Your goal is to influence the wildlife - and arrange their meals - so there is only one animal left! COMPONENTS 16 Land Animal Cards 2.Water Animal Cards SETUP 1. Separate the Land and Water animal cards, 2. Shuffle the Land animals and create a 4x4 face-up grid. 3. Set the two Water animals aside, face-up. Gameplay: In this game, you will take as many turns as possible with a goal of only having one land animal left on the table. On each turn, you must move one animal to eat another. Ifyou cannot ‘move an animal to eat another, the game ends. Ona turn, you must move one land animal one space in one of the four cardinal directions so it’s placed over another animal that is 1-3 numbers lower in value. In this way, you can move the ‘10’ animal over a 9, 8 or 7. When you do this, place the card on top of the lower card. This land animal can be any one of your choice. You must move the higher numbered card on top of the lower card. You cannot move the lower numbered card into the higher numbered card's space. When you move a card to eat another, you activate the ability on the card that just ate another. This special effect is mandatory and must be applied. In some cases, the ability will benefit you, and in others it will make the game harder. When cards are stacked on one another, they are considered to be the number on the top. The stack of cards now move together. Atany time you may discard a water animal and perform its special ability. This does not count as your turn. Once a water animal is used, itis discarded. If the water animal’s ability conflicts with an ability you just activated, the water animal's ability trumps the other ability. Once you finish moving and eating an animal, then you start another turn and move another animal. It may be any animal you choose, and doesn’t have to be the same one. ‘Some special abilities will allow you to move cards. When moving a card, you must always move an animal into an, ‘empty space - unless otherwise stated. Ifthey move more than one spaces, they may move over other animals but must land in an empty space. These spaces are the ones formed by the grid of cards and will be created as animals move and eat one another. Empty spaces also existing outside the starting card formatas well. As you move cards around, be sure to picture the play space as a grid and keep cards well aligned during play. Game End Iyou have only one animal remaining, congratulations! You have won the game with a Great Win. If you have two animals remaining, you have a Good Win. If you have three animals remaining, you have Just Scraped By. If you have 4 or more remaining and cannot move to eat another animal, you have lost the game, Further Challenges ‘To make the game more difficult, randomly remove one or both of the water animals.
