4. Connection to ILP Goal:

Regular attendance at district board meetings kept me informed of mandates coming from the state and local levels

and district protocols and policies to address them. I also learned of new MOU signed with bargaining unions and they

impacted staff work responsibilities and student learning. All of this was then taken back to my school site and used to

keep staff and parents informed of changes within the state and district.

5. Training Concepts implemented and Summary of Results/ Impact:

Professional learning for this goal included regular attendance at district board meetings and DELAC meetings. This

school year, I attended 19 board meetings remotely via Youtube and all five DELAC meetings. Information such as

updated MOUS, health and safety guidelines and the timeline for bringing students back to campus was included in my

classified staff meeting and ELAC meetings. These meeting keep me update with policies, protocols and how they

impacted school closures. Departments within the district such as Business Services and Student Services also
presented information that I could take back to my site and communicate to parents and staff.

7. Name of Presenter/Organization/Facilitator: Westside Union School District Board of Trustees
8. Would you recommend this training to others? Please explain:
I would recommend that all education stakeholders regularly attend board meetings. Staying informed
on not only policy, but district goals, initiatives and funding is key to addressing the needs of students
and improving learning outcomes. As an administrator, understandings gained from board meetings
increased my communication and decision- making skills. It gained fundamental knowledge of how
policies shape education and how departments within the district work in concert to maintain the day to
day operations of school sites. Furthermore, as principals from sites across the district presented, I
gained an understanding of other school’s cultures and performance.
