The aim for this course

• From the related topics of chemical biology listed in the previous slide, it
is easy to tell how broad the field of chemical biology is.

• Chemical biology is expanding and evolving. The research funding crisis

forces scientist to focus on “practical” problems. It is not surprising that
more and more research move toward biological or material science
related area.

• Therefore students need to find out what contemporary chemical

biology is by their own definition and interest.

• This course connects organic chemistry and biotechnology and hope to

prepare students for understanding current chemical biology research.

• To fulfill such purpose, a text book with enough breadth is necessary for
students major in chemistry.
