The past few days have been more stressful than ever. Pierre and I started our research about
invisible rays given off by uranium – a new phenomenon which had recently been discovered by
Professor Henri Becquerel.

We made progress! Today I noticed the radioactivity level difference between the mineral uranium
sample and the pure uranium. At this point I am convinced that the very large readings I was getting
could not be caused by uranium alone. It must be something else in the pitchblende, something in a
tiny quantity. Could it be a new chemical element?

Despite everyone elese’s statements, I am sure of my work. I know I discovered something. Pierre is
the only one who believes in me and he agreed to help me with more research on the misterious
element I have discovered.

June 4th 1987

I KNEW IT! For the past months we have been working day and night and made a scientifical
breakthrough. We extracted a black powder which was 330 times more that the uranium, we called it
POLONIUM. I have never been so happy with my work. It all payed off. Yet… my instinct tells me
there’s more to it…

I want to continue with the research. Everyone keeps telling me and Pierre that we should stop. The
work is extremely hard, but I enjoy doing it. I want to know more. I need to know more. Am I going to
far? I was taught that the way of progress is neither swift nor easy.

January 5th 1897

We are beyond happy! We did not give up, we walked on this road together and we succeeded.
After 6 months of research, today we published evidence supporting the existance of a new element
RADIUM. Our story does not end here, but for now, Pierre and I are pleased with our breakthrough.
